Upper Pine Bottom State Park

Description

Upper Pine Bottom State Park is a 5acre Pennsylvania state park in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The park is in Cummings Township on Pennsylvania Route 44 and is surrounded by the Tiadaghton State Forest. It is on Upper Pine Bottom Run, which gave the park its name and is a tributary of Pine Creek. Upper Pine Bottom State Park is in the Pine Creek Gorge, where the streams have cut through five major rock formations from the Devonian and Carboniferous periods. The earliest recorded inhabitants of the area were the Susquehannocks, followed by the Iroquois, Lenape, and Shawnee. Upper Pine Bottom Run was the site of a furnace for pig iron in 1814, the first sawmill was built on it in 1815, and in 1825 an earlier bridle path across its headwaters became a turnpike. The lumber industry led to the clearcutting of the area in the 19th century. The state forest was started in 1898 and the park was formed from it by 1923 as a Class B public camp. The Civilian Conservation Corps had a camp on the run and improved the park in the 1930s, but it was not transferred to the Bureau of State Parks until 1962. Though it began as a public campsite and once had a picnic pavilion, as of it is for day use only and its only facilities are a few picnic tables and a parking area.

Not sure what qualifies this as a state park - a gravel parking lot and two picnic tables next to a nice small stream. No other facilities no bathroom of any kind, no trash cans, no BBQ grills, etc. No hiking trails connect the park with anything. Picnic area: Two picnic tables - that's all folks!
One of the smallest state parks in Pennsylvania, Upper Pine Bottom State Park consists of a pull off area on PA route 44 with a few picnic tables and access to a few hiking trails nearby. There are no facilities at this park so it adheres to the “carry in carry out” policy for picnickers to dispose of their trash. The stream is beautiful and the park provides an access point for fishing the native trout stream flowing through the park.
Lovely small picnic spot. The whole park comprises of two picnic tables, a small parking lot that can hold maybe 6 cars and a nice stream as ambience.
Nice pocket park right off Route 44. Picnic tables by the water. Fishing in the Upper Pine Bottom Run. The hiking trail connects to the nearby Pine Creek Rail Trail. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and forests diamond
Not really a park. More of a pull off area with a picnic table. But the stream and waterfall is literally right there, no hike required. Be aware, when we went last week, there are deep intermittent holes near the edge of the bank. Unsure if they were animal holes, or just weak spots where the ground collapsed in due to erosion. Just watch your step. It's quite peaceful and worth a stop for tranquility.
Nice place to stop and take a break. Who knows what could happen there
Very nice picnic area along the road. Nice, cool spot to picnic by the steam in the summer. Beautful waterfall and mountain steam. This state park is tiny but worth a visit.
Be a lot better visit if they had more signs indicating trails and attractions.
Beautiful little park. Great place to stop .
Really small....not even good for a picnic.
