**The Formation of Urban Soul Haven**
Urban Soul Haven was founded by Nikey Dunston (Pen Name: Nikey Pasco-Dunston) in 2014. Nikey Pasco-Dunston is a Life Coach, artist, poet, author, songwriter, fashion designer, spoken-word artist, and an all-around entertainer.
Nikey's passion for the arts came about at the tender age of 5 and since then her creativeness has grown to levels that were only in her dreams. It was in 2014, that she decided to create a brand that highlights her versatility in the arts. In 2016, she decided to do the same for other urban artists in need of that extra exposure. Now she presents Urban Soul Haven...
**My Vision**
I plan to open this booth/store in the Arbor Place Mall, located in Douglasville, Georgia. Urban Soul Haven is what Arbor Place Mall is missing! My store will be the home of urban and poetry books written by other self-published authors as well as myself that writes righteous reads. Urban Soul Haven will also sell jewelry that is made for healing purposes, meditation, and prayer needs, handmade African jewelry, my framed poems that include artwork, artwork from various urban artists throughout the United States and Urban Music (Conscious Hip-Hop, R&B, and Jazz). We will not sell anything that promotes hate or degrades women in any way.
I recently self-published my first two books over the summer and I must say that I enjoyed the whole process. I enjoyed it so much that I am even considering launching my own publishing company in the near future. Now that's a whole different topic :)
Being a self-published author has its pros and cons. The main thing that a lot of self-published author's need is major exposure to brand themselves and sell their work. This goes the same with up and coming artists out there. The struggle is real!
Urban Soul Haven will allow authors, poets, and artists to sell their work and they will receive 100% of their sales. Urban Soul Haven will actively promote and market these talented individuals as long as their work is on our display.
How will Urban Soul Haven benefit from this? We will charge an affordable flat rate fee to sell and promote the talents work in our store and online.
I want to be able to promote and sell my work and jewelry as well as help out other talented artists/authors too! In the very near future, I plan to take Urban Soul Haven to another level of success. I can't give you all of those details because someone might take my idea (lol).
I created a campaign in hopes to gather up $10,790.00
$4,000 will go towards the store
$5,290 will go towards production of goods
$1,500 will go towards other items for the store (signs, flyers, etc)
I have been actively trying to collect donations towards this project since November 2014 and that did not work. I've even applied for a couple of grants and I never heard anything back. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful at getting the funding needed to bring this project into light. That is why I started a campaign at Kickstarter. Any extra funds collected will be used towards the life of Urban Soul Haven.
