Aside from getting an amazing dog from this place I have nothing good to say. The women that work in the front office are rude, disrespectful and overall bitter. They will do everything possible to keep their work to a minimum. I've never felt so unwelcome in a shelter/rescue environment. I witnessed a lady bring in a stray cat and basically get told to dump it back where she found it after she informed the staff she had a disabled child in the car that was due at therapy. I also witnessed a similar incident today when we went back to finalize our adoption we were doing a slumber party...which basically came down to the staff not wanting to do the intake paperwork. They make you feel like you are a bother especially the younger girl up front...she really needs to reevaluate why she shows up for work each day when she obviously doesn't like her job. I also question if these dogs needs are getting meet medically or if they just spay/neuter them and ship them out to a slumber and adoption. I will continue to adopt but I won't ever subject myself to this place again. On the upside our new addition Rose is doing awesome. She such a sweetheart and I'm so glad we lucked up with her!
Best shelter I've ever adopted from. Allowed a two week "sleep over" to make sure it was a good fit, which was greatly appreciated since I have another dog and I wanted to make sure they'd get along. After adoption, which was 6 months ago, I took his papers to the vet and she was extremely impressed by the shelter's thoroughness. All vaccines were up to date, he had been neutered, and as an added bonus - at least at the time of this review - the shelter provided heartworm medication for up to one year at half the retail cost. I adopted a true Heinz 57. My vet guessed he was a sheba-inu beagle, lab mix! All I know is that he is a super snuggle muffin and a wonderful dog - a great addition to my family. I highly recommend Citrus county if you're looking for a rescue. The staff and volunteers were very helpful. Having been an animal control officer for a shelter in another state, and having adopted many fur babies over the decades, I cannot say enough good things about them If in doubt, check them out. You might find your new best friend there, like I did.
Rescued my kitten here and the staff deserves extreme acknowledgement! They were kind and educational. People who truly love animals! My kitten has been healthy and happy ever since his adoption!
I was destroyed by them not accepting this poor little girl. She was so sweet and friendly. They told me to take her out in the woods and leave her. They didn't have any room.
For a county run shelter, where I have volunteered, adopted and care for the animals, this is definitely 5/5. Most county run places are sad but they try their hardest and it shows
We went here 3 times in 2 weeks got 3 different answers on when they close the lady at the front told me if I was there at 4:30pm and knew what animals I wanted to adopt she would take care of it… it was 4:39pm when I tried to get a clear answer on what time to be there they were just rude told us they don't have the time to let us adopt but the shelters are full and we left work early for this
I adopted 2 dogs from this shelter. The staff is very friendly and do their best to support the animals. I got 2 fairly young dogs. Next a senior. Its hard to walk out that place and see all those sad eyes looking at you to take them home. They have a wonderful program called pajama party. Where your allowed to take the pet home for 2 weeks to see if the pet is a good fit for your family. I really like that option. Please adopt. It feels great to say i rescued 2 dogs. Update....i had to return one of the dogs because they were not getting along at all. Lots of fighting. Broke my heart, but i couldn't handle both. Since he was on foster to own.i was able to take him back within two weeks. He was adopted within 2 days of me bringing him back. I still miss him.
I adopted My Flash a year ago. He's such a gentleman that it's time to find him a play pal. I'm looking for an American Pitbull Terrier. Female around 2 years old. Big fenced yard, but my dogs are house dogs. 2 hours everyday at Holden Park. EXPLORING. I trust the staff to find the nest animal atch because they interact with them daily.
We went here in search of a new family member and did not leave disappointed! Dalila previously Zira is now safe and comfortable in her new home, and we intend to keep it that way. She is such a fast learner, already listening to her commands, such as 'potty or 'leave it'! We were given a tour around the place to see the dogs, who get walked daily and are up to date on all their shots. Very healthy, happy dogs who all deserve good loving homes. Also, staff was amazing and kind, and they all were very helpful in terms of helping us adopt Dalila. Such kind and loving people, who clearly care for the dogs and the homes they go to. Thank you all for such a great experience, it made everything a lot easier!
I emailed Colleen in regards to adopting a dog and she advised there was a wait list. My contact information was on my email and I was told I wasn't even on the list when I showed up 45 minutes before they opened. Someone showed up 15 minutes before they opened and got the dog out from under me. Apparently you have to have connections to someone who works there in order to adopt any other kind of dog than a pit bull.
