The University of Texas at El Paso, in cooperation with the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, offers a program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree. The program allows the prospective student to acquire all prerequisite coursework required by the College of Pharmacy to be gained in El Paso. Following acceptance into the College of Pharmacy, the student obtains the first two years of professional curriculum in Austin and upon returning to El Paso, the student obtains the last two years of professional curriculum. Upon completion of the required professional studies in El Paso, the student is awarded the Doctor of Pharmacy degree through the UT Austin College of Pharmacy with the Cooperation of the UTEP College of Health Sciences. The Cooperative Pharmacy Program offers enhanced access to the UT Austin College of Pharmacy and a career in Pharmacy. Pharmacy students in the Cooperative Pharmacy Program enjoy the benefits of a small program, along with the advantages of graduating from a renowned and highly ranked College of Pharmacy. Students gain the economic benefits of completing 50% of the professional curriculum in El Paso.
We will prepare students to become competent, empathetic, and culturally sensitive pharmacists who are committed to life-long learning and service to the Paso del Norte region. Our students will participate in the health care community in a responsible and ethical manner by ensuring optimal pharmaceutical care and positive patient outcomes. Upon completion of their training, our students will have the skills to develop and foster pharmacy services in the community
The mission of the Cooperative Pharmacy Program (CPP) is to enhance the knowledge, health, and well being of the people we serve in concert with the mission, vision, and values of both cooperating campuses of the University of Texas. The University of Texas at El Paso Cooperative Pharmacy Program, in cooperation with the University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy, offers curriculum leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The UTEP/UT Austin Cooperative Pharmacy Program is designed to facilitate access to the College of Pharmacy in Austin by providing opportunities to fulfill graduation requirements in El Paso. Students can be admitted through the UTEP Cooperative Pharmacy Program after completion of pre-pharmacy requirements. UTEP faculty members are available to assist students. The Program has instituted the following goals
Enhance the accessibility of pharmacy education for the young people of El Paso
Alleviate the shortage of pharmacists in El Paso.
Diversify the pharmacy profession by adding more pharmacists into the profession who are sensitive to the unique needs of a largely Hispanic population.
Serve the pharmaceutical care needs of the under served in the El Paso region.
Research border health pharmaceutical care issues.
Provide drug information and analyses for health care providers in the region.
