I once again found myself at the mercy of the VA Healthcare, currently recovering from hand and wrist surgery 13 days ago.. I do not know the results. However, I am confident for positive results. I have had 3 life-changing surgeries by the VA Healthcare in Boston, I am forever thankful and grateful to them. They are family.
VA Boston has best staff & docs by far. Coming here for years & it was bad waaayyyy back when there wasn't a even a Women's Healthcare. Now it's like a different world. If you can work here , u can work anywhere cuz I know we aren't always the easiest group of clients. These people saved my life & help keep me centered. I get off track I thank GOD for these people.
I’ve had the best care here. My orthopedic surgeon is in the top of her field. Even if I had the money, I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
Most of the staff refuses to work after lunch. Don’t bother going after 1pm. They will do nothing. Late to arrive and early to leave but getting secured government pay no matter how terrible the service is. SMFH!
In all the doctors I’ve had within the Jamaica Plain campus, I can honestly say there was only 1 Doctor within this campus that was a respectable doctor. From being spoken down to by primary care about my personal decision not to receive a Covid vaccine. A counselor abandoned me as a patient and at the same time literally admit that it wasn’t what was best for me. Had an issue with my foot, had been seen on three separate occasions the third time because they couldn’t get it right the first two times and not once was given any type of pain relief. When I was at the ER for my foot, I had a needle jammed into the most painful parts I had on my foot and he dug around. The swelling, pain and bleeding was unacceptable. Especially since I was sent away in that condition. Again left in pain. Podiatry seems to think they have the authority to tell you what you feel for pain. Although, if they had don’t the job right the first time, I wouldn’t have had to come back 10 days later with redness, swelling and pain. How about GI wrongfully diagnosing me with liver disease for a whole year? Then just to have a family member who is in the medical field question the doctor and my labs. All the sudden, I didn’t have liver disease anymore. Imagine that. Or when I was literally screamed at by a nurse from primary care and told I was a liar when they lost my paperwork. Funny thing about that one? I had a hand receipt stating that I dropped that exact paperwork off. This facility is literally the type of facility on how there’s so many “stereotypes” on the VA. But, are the stereotypes if they’re true? This campus does not care about you. I’ve never felt like my medical care was safe inside this building.
The workers here go out of their way to be helpful and kind. The providers have been nothing but professional in my experience. I'm happy we have this VA. I have had routine care here only. I cannot speak to the quality of the ER or in-patient wards.
I was apprehensive to go to the VA Health Center in Jamaica Plain. This was my first Involvement with the VA sense discharge from the Marines in 1967. Sense discharge my wife has complained that I couldn't hear her when she talked to me. I finally relented to signup and go and get my hearing tested. I was assigned to the Jamaica Plain campus for a hearing test. I was pleasantly surprised on my visit. After entering the facility I had many people come up to me and asked if they could help, I must have looked lost. After they got me to the 8th floor I checked in and only had to wait a very short time when the Technician came out and introduced herself. Her name is Karen and she took the time to explain everything that was going to happen and listened to my dumb questions. After the testing she took the time and explained the results and what the procedure was going to be going forward. The downside is I had to go home and tell my wife she was right! This story isn't complete unless I tell you how my VA Representative Carol Callahan helped me wade through the massive amount of paperwork needed to get through so I could get my appointment. I would have been lost without her advice.
The docs here are great. I have more faith in the people that are here than those that are in practice private. I've had 2 eye operations that were very successful. I never had to wait very long to be taken, and I was comfortable the whole time. I can't say enough about OR team. From the nurses to the docs; top notch. I've also had the pleasure to be worked on in the dental department, by Dr, Dewey and her assistants. I always felt like I was in a family environment. They made sure I was comfortable and knew everything they were doing. My teeth have never been better, and they look great. I would be amiss If I didn't mention Dr. Trachman, and how awesome she's been helping me and my family. Kudos to one of the best. I've been going here for years, and I would be heart broken if they weren't there.
After being transfered a handful of times and no one communicating to myself the veteran I finally got told what happened. Rather than calling me to tell me the orthopedic doctors did not feel the need to be seen instead physical therapy the offices could not call to notify me. Other staff did not seem to care about finding a solution.
The pharmacy at the JP VA is terrible. Unless you are physically capable of picking up your medications it is a game of luck as to whether or not they will be sent out. No accountability at any level. I’m glad two people had a positive experience. Imagine the countless vets whom won’t take the time or are incapable of leaving. Reviews.
