The Varina Library off of New Market Road is not just one of the most beautiful Library’s I’ve ever visited, but it is one of the most beautiful buildings I got to explore! If you don’t believe me, just search American Institute of Architects and the American library Association for winning an award for one of the most beautiful libraries in the world in 2017. There is only one other library in the US that have won this award. My friend and I went to do a study session and to get away from the city. Getting there was an easy drive that stretched along the Virginia Capital Trail - so if you wanted to you can even ride your bike there! We studied there for two hours and relished in the ambience. We’ll definitely be back, maybe on our bikes.
This library is stunning both inside and out. There are so many work stations throughout the library that you can study in. There are also larger rooms that you can reserve. The kid section is so nice, and we used to love going to story time here! Seems even bigger on the inside than it looks in the outside. It's the perfect peaceful space to get some studying done. Great selection of books too!
Most breathtaking library in Henrico county, even better than Fairfield or Libbie Mill, our other favorite county libraries. Designers Quinn Evans deserve a lot of praise for this brilliant work, as recognized by the awards. I especially love the native plant trail, that goes down behind the library and provides a whole different perspective to the library. The various pavilions in the library old tobacco barns flow so beautifully and the views outside are awesome. Well, Varina is not the West End or Short Pump for that matter. The reading landing is a very cool idea. The rocking chairs looking out and the many seating concepts are well thought out. Magazines are in their own nook. Kids' section in the lower level very attractive. I so liked the teen area I went and complimented the librarian there. They offer many more activities for the lucky kids. So many wonderful spaces and it's funny it seemed underused. More folks over at the Dorey Park than here this Saturday! Outdoors and books are both close to my heart and I only wish this library gets more patronage like the West End libraries. Will be back, though it's 30 min away.
Beautiful library! Very spacious and well maintained. My only quibble is that you are not allowed to eat or drink in the library. You have to go outside the building. The water fountain cannot be used. There is a sticker right beside it that says do not use. I can understand banning drinks like alcohol, soda or juice in the library but people should be allowed to drink water and hydrate. Chesterfield libraries allow you to eat and drink whatever you want inside the library building. You will only be asked to clean up after yourself. Other than this every other thing about this library is exquisite. Did I mention that there is a nature trail here? Oh yeah!
Very nice library. Nice nature walk surrounding the library. Meeting rooms are adequate in size. Larger rooms should have a projector.
This is probably one of the most impressive libraries I've ever seen. It is absolutely stunning architecturally, with beautiful and functional spaces for studying, relaxing, meeting, etc. While a bit far from Richmond proper, it's right off the capital trail, and less than an hour biking distance. It's the perfect place to spend a relaxing Saturday it's closed Sunday, or any day. Definitely worth seeing in person, as pictures alone do not do it justice.
This library looks brand new and definitely competes with Twin Hickory as far as amenities go. Hands down my favorite one to visit in the area. Modern look and design and staff is friendly.
Beautifully detailed, well lit, welcoming library! Wish Chesterfield County had community amenities like this.
I am impressed by this modern library, it includes a salarim of serene atmospheres. The view outdoors is distractingly georgeous. The staff is welcoming and informative. I look forward to spending time here and getting acquainted with my new community.
Great building. LEED Certified for sustainable design. Nice seating areas and study rooms. Great technology and plenty of public events offered.
