I’ve had a couple bad experiences. Rude & on a power trip when I was pulled over for a tail light being out one night. I was 2 seconds from my house when the lights came on, so to pull over in a safe place I turned on my street & pulled in my driveway. The lady accused me of “trying to run” like what?! Obviously wasn’t trying to run & if I was further from home, I would’ve just pulled on the side of the road. The other horrible experience was when my narcissistic ex husband called the cops on me. Per our parenting plan, the receiving parent picks up our kids. It was my weekend & I was picking them up on a Fri evening. When I reminded him he was picking them up Sun evening, he right away refuses & calls the cops on me! The older cop who looked my ex’s age, actually sided with my ex saying I’d be charged for kidnapping..excuse me?! How is picking up our children on MY weekend & him refusing to pick them up when he’s supposed to kidnapping?! I’m not stopping him from getting our kids at all. The cop just said I’d have to take it to court. My ex would have been in violation of the parenting plan not me. There’s nothing to take to court when I already have it in writing that the receiving parent picks our kids up. That officer needs to learn what a parenting plan is & learn the law in who’s actually in violation. I was treated like some young dumb Mom compared to my much older ex. Ridiculous. Get the facts first before assuming Mr police officer.
Extremely vigilant and proactive on their response time and due diligence. Never have I experienced a more well managed and publicly respected police department. I don’t reside in Venice but if I did they would be within the top 5 reasons as to why I would. Thank you for all that you all do.
If you’re being pulled over..you’re probably not having a good day, which is why I’m sure reviews aren’t the best. However, all of the Venice Police I have come in contact with have been incredibly friendly, and very attentive. Anytime there has been issues in our community small or large they take everything into consideration and go the extra mile.
What a disgraceful force of officers arresting and charging an innocent man at a Motel. An investigation and retraining need to happen and hold the officers accountable for their actions and unprofessionalism. Just because you have a badge and a gun, you have no rights to trample on the freedoms of citizens in the US.
I am the mother of an autistic young adult. I ; have met about 20 to 25 police officers. With the exception of about 5, they are talented, professional, and extremely-caring. But the few bad officers are extremely damaging. I recently spoke to a Lieutenant in regards to an inappropriate officer, and he was polite, professional and open-minded. However, the "problem officer" got worse after my conversation with the Lieutenant, and his disrespect and anger towards me flowed to the other officers when they arrived to asisst with my son at another time. I was actually pushed by an officer that day last week, who was with the problem officer. His reasoning for pushing me professional woman, no ability to harm ANYONE or ANY OFFICER FOR SURE, never any record, mother of autistic young adult was because "I was trespassing" at a local organization where I had been told to leave. NONE OF THAT WAS TRUE. THERE ARE VIDEOS INSIDE. I had an appointment there and we were never "tresspassing" or told to leave; my autistic son has the memory of a genius. The officer admitted to me that he pushed me. It was especially painful how he pushed me because of a surgery and injuries from a bad accident. I felt threatened and harassed by this officer after I questioned his reasoning for pushing me .... instead of just offering to "get my backpack I left inside"! There was a third officer there last week, Officer Hendersen, and he instead chose the high road, and was professional and appropriate as most of the Venice Police officers are. When the "problem officer" was at my home before I spoke to the Lieutenant, he was verbally abusive to me, and the other, totally unnecessary 2 or 3 officers there fell in line as to the mannerisms of Officer "S"; they wanted me in my driveway, so my neighbors could stare at me. I made them understand that "that was unnecessary"....so they instead went across the street to a relatively new neighbor very friendly to me and my popular, friendly son, and those neighbors have never spoken to us again! I feel extremely harassed by these few bad officers. They treat me like a criminal....instead of an amazing, mother of an autistic young adult who was abused by his father in NJ, and is trying to find his way. They act like my son and I "fight together". We certainly do not. He is 6'5", and I am an average size mom, and my son is simply emotionally not stable now from longterm abuse from his father, but he is not, and has never been dangerous to any other person. The Sheriffs department officers have never in any way harassed or acted unprofessionally as the Venice police officers have done. That small group is completely inappropriate to assist with a non-violent, autistic man such as my son, let alone becoming physical with me because of a very bad weakness or decision. I truly believe that without immediate training and repercussions for their actions, these officers would put in danger other disabled members in our society, especially those with schizophenia.
Our neighbor stole a sign from our yard. We told her not to and replaced it. She called the cops and, despite her trespassing on our property and STEALING our property, they gave us the talk and told us to stay away from THEM. What! I don't trust a single one of them. Awful and get paid exorbitant amounts of money for it. But keep forking over all those extra taxes so they have cushier cars.
This location at 1350 Ridgewood Ave is no longer the Venice police station. This is now Venice Public Works department.
Called to police about fraud, they told me that officer will call me back .. yes .. somebody called and then .. I will call you back later …. Terrible experience, we are the people who wanted to move to nokomis FL, but maybe if was a sign… terrible experience!!!
A stop sign on a busy street was knocked down. I called at 745am and they had a cop sitting there within minutes. I was so glad to see such an immediate response.
All cops need retraining there they’re too hostile they forget they work for the citizens All officers need to sign an oath of the constitution with their full name it be easier to sooth each individual not the city
