Vermont Legal Aid

About

Vermont Legal Aid is where individuals and families turn when faced with a legal problem that threatens their rights, shelter, job, health or well-being.

Description

Vermont Legal Aid helps to ensure that one of the founding principles of this country remains alive: justice for all, not just for the few who can afford it.

We provide free civil legal services to people throughout Vermont, primarily those with low incomes or who meet the income and eligibility guidelines for each of our projects:
• Disability Law Project
• Elder Law Project
• Office of the Health Care Advocate
• Housing Discrimination Law Project
• Long Term Care Ombudsman Project
• Mental Health Law Project
• Poverty Law Project

We work to address the causes of poverty, discrimination and inequality through legal representation, community education, public policy and legislative advocacy.

Our Commitment to Diversity

Vermont Legal Aid believes that diversity produces a more dynamic, creative, and thoughtful community. We support diversity of thought, culture, and life experience among our staff and our community.

We believe that everyone in Vermont should have equal and fair access to legal services. We work hard to be accessible, welcoming and to provide some level of legal services to as many as we can.

We are dedicated to helping those who face undue barriers to participation in the U.S. legal system, who are not familiar with the legal system, and/or whose first language is not English.

Well I will be filing for myself and others in federal court concerning victims compensation, these people are paid by the state and other states to keep victims safe well looking at all these evictions on people that should be protected they aren't doing such a great job.Treat people better.
Wonderful people, place for those that cannot afford to hire an attorney! They are helpful, attentive & knowledgeable. They dont handle every type of law, but if you call they will help you any way they can! Be patient with your initial call. It generally takes a couple days to hear back! They are very busy!
Caring agencies refer me to Legal Aide and the woman at the phone, Sue, is rude and refuses to do an intake. Sue says they never help dv victims. Sue says they do not help with bad landlords or anything. Sue is a gatekeeper and unprofessional. She makes the agency look very bad. What is the point of being a 'free attorney agency" if you don't help anyone and refuse to answer questions?
No matter why I've called or used them, they have been very helpful and knowledgeable! Quick call back and great to work with!
