Vestal's Gap Road Historic Park

It is a small park that is hard to find. You have to park in the parking lot near Red Lobster, then you have to walk on the sidewalk to the entrance of the park. Three stars is even a gift for this joke of a park, with so many benches you’d wonder where the concert or the people is. I think it’s nice that they at least preserved a tiny bit of the road, but it’s still very gravelly and partially flooded when I visited days after the last rain. It overlooks the Blue Ridges out west and the now-vacant Rust Belt-like mall and oversized parking lot. What’s the future of this park? Not sure, though the longtime home and property of Elizabeth Carrie Nokes across the way has been sold and will quickly be levelled and turned into more shops that are destined to fail, oh goody! In the not-so-distance are two soon-to-be three of the most massive and ugly data centres in the world. The greed in this county is outstanding, you know if you want to visit another great park, be sure to wast your time at the nearby Vestal’s Gap Overlook Park, where you go on the same defunct road for .1 miles and see nothing but development in progress. The interpretive signs are at least adequate. This park has many non-native species, so it isn’t even a good preservation of the natural forest, maybe stop by here before it becomes a doomed-business, housing, or a data centre.

There is a larger stretch that's more picturesque running through Claude Moore Park in Sterling 1.2 miles SE of here just off Cascades Pkwy. This segment gives you more of a sense of what life may have been like along this Colonial road. Check out the Heritage Farm Museum and the surrounding walking trails.

This park consists of a small section of historic roadway that George Washington May have travelled on during his multiple journeys thru rural loudoun county. It is well maintained, organized and taken care of.

Take it easy for a little while...come and stay awhile at vestals gap. They just need to add a taqueria on the roof and it will be perfect.
