Victoria School of Contemporary Dance

About

Victoria School of Contemporary Dance is one of the leading centres for Contemporary Dance training in Western Canada.

Description

Victoria School of Contemporary Dance is one of the leading centres for contemporary dance training in Western Canada. VSC Dance is one of a handful of non-commercial schools, Canada-wide, committed to cross-training that is grounded equally in the disciplines of modern dance and ballet technique. The result - non-patterned, versatile, adaptable contemporary dancers with solid modern and ballet training.

From beginner to professional classes, youth to adults, Victoria School Of Contemporary Dance offers a fresh, innovative and non-competitive atmosphere. We are an open minded centre for movement innovation that celebrates the joy of dance in each and everyone of us.

VSC Dance complements its regular program of sound technical training with additional inventive programming that promotes exceptionally strong improvisation skills, broad choreographic experience, multiple performance opportunities, and focused one-on-one mentorship in creative process.

VSCD faculty combine teaching, choreography, and professional performance experience to provide skillful, sensitive, and individual training for every dancer, encouraging full, creative expression among both children and adults.

Victoria School of Contemporary Dancers are creative, disciplined, technically proficient and self-motivated

Mission

Performance Companies

VSC Dance houses three Repertory Companies. Acceptance into the companies is by invitation or audition. All companies work with a variety of renowned guest choreographers and VSC Dance faculty throughout the year.
While the focus of these companies is on repertoire and performance opportunities, members also participate in dance-for-camera intensives, dance history seminars, performance laboratories, dance funding and grant writing seminars, and more.
Company members are encouraged to create their own work for KINECT - VSC Dance’s Student Choreographic Performance. The Companies have their own show every year at the lovely Metro Theatre.
