VIEW, a new waterfront restaurant which was once part of William K. Vanderbilt's Idle Hour Estate, overlooks the Great South Bay in Oakdale. Mission is to offer diners "the best seafood experience" on Long Island in a casually elegant atmosphere.

Just wanted to give my highest recommendation and review of the View in Oakdale for our wedding reception/venue spot. The food was outstanding. Our guests would not stop talking about how great everything was and my wife and I were overly impressed with how amazing everything came out. Everything from the cocktail hour, to the main course, to the cake from Rolling Pin Bakery, just unbelievable. We even got to choose Surf & Turf as one of our entrees and it was so delicious! Working with Jimmy, Joe, and Jen was so easy for us as a couple. We didn't have a wedding planner, and my wife and I did everything on our own, but with the help of Jimmy & Jen, our day couldn't of went smoother and they took the burden off of us and definitely made the planning as stress-free as possible. They took the time to listen to what we envisioned the day looking like and we were fortunate enough to have the entire restaurant to ourselves since we chose a date in their off season. It was decorated beautifully for the holidays, and they even let us pick and choose which decorations to keep and which we could put away for the day. Their new outdoor space is now covered with heaters and it made for the perfect dance floor/cocktail hour spot and with the lighting and hanging flowers that we added, it was just truly magical. We cannot thank the View and their staff enough for their professionalism and the amazing experience that they were able to give us for our special day. It was worth all the wait after being postponed almost a year and a half due to COVID. So if you are an LI bride looking for a waterfront venue with amazing food & ambiance, the View is the place for you.
This place was perfect on such a nice day. Friendly staff, outdoor dining right on the water. Reasonably priced. The dish that stood out was the burger. Great bun, seasoned well. Also, the French fries were outstanding as well. I look forward to coming here for dinner next time.
Beautiful experience! The mussels are great, lobster pasta is nice and tasty, the filet mignon is awesome. On top of everything, we got to met Julie, a beautiful person wh knows how to treat the guests.
I wish I could relive my wedding day every day of my life! Jenn and Jimmy went above & beyond and made us feel like a part of the View family from the moment we walked in the door until the last guest left. The incredible attention to every detail, their warmth and balance of fun and professionalism made our wedding day better than we ever could have imagined. We owe our wedding celebration from start to finish being our "Best Day Ever" 100% to Jenn, Jimmy and the entire View staff. A server even found an envelope gift filled with cash afterwards and turned it into management, so heartwarming! Thank you to everyone at View for all you did for us, our friends and family are still saying it's the best wedding they've ever been to!
November 2020 - Five Stars - Four of us went for late lunch at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon and had a very nice meal. Two did a la carte while two did Prix Fixed. Soup appetizers and all the mains were very good as was the Pumpkin Pie Parfait for dessert. The View is no misnomer as the view of the water is very nice with large glass windows across the entire waterside wall. Service was very good and not pushy. Social distancing rules well enforced, every other table blocked off from use, masks required when not seated. Nice experience! September 2021 - Two Stars - We had a late 3:00 PM lunch at The View and were quite disappointed. Service was very poor even with wait staff everywhere and very few customers. Further, the sauce on a pasta dish was thin and lacking of flavor, clams casino were also so bland that we didn't eat two of the three and when we told the waitress they weren't very good, she left then on the table anyway, and never offered to remove them from the bill. Very disappointing after a great experience the first time.
The restaurant has beautiful views and great food however giving it 3 stars because we had a 615 reservation and we finished at 1015, so long to get our drinks and another 30 minutes to get our appetizers, then they forgot 1 drink and after about 15 minutes later came to check on us and remember he never brought the beers, we then waited another hour for our dinner to be served, and when we ordered desserts our waiter never brought them to us, after finally waiting waiter came to table with check and noticed then we never got desserts, we would have left without dessert but waiter ran to get them, 4 hours for dinner is drawn out but a plus the food was good.
Would've been 5 star, except the long wait for service. Forgotten items weren't delivered and had to be reordered. Terrific lobster Bisque, excellent salads..The atmosphere and food were excellent. Cheers.
I hosted a baby shower for my daughter today, and everything was just perfect. We had a beautifully decorated room, amazing staff, and delicious food. The brunch buffet was continuously replenished with fresh food, and the mimosa's were refilled constantly. I highly recommend The View for events, and I will definitely be back for their delicious brunch! Thank you for making our day so special!
I've dined here many times, and have never been disappointed. This past Sunday I was there for my Birthday Brunch. Days before my number of guests increased by 6 and the sraff was so accommodating and polite. We were extremely happy with the food, and service. I will definitely continue to return, and refer friends and family.
The View was once a top shelf seafood establishment. Sadly that's no longer case. We went there for a family reunion of sorts with a table of 8. First off you should know they charge for a bread basket. While this has become a "thing" at some restaurants lately, we asked for 2 baskets that never arrived. Furthermore, the appetizers and dinners were all brought out at the same time, except for one appetizer that got lost in the sauce. Don't make the same mistake we did. Don't pay premium prices for mediocre service. The are relying on the view because the rest is not worth the price.
