Villa Maya Restaurant

Description

Owners of Cavo’s Cantina in Rockville, originally known as Tabasco, created a great option to share with the family, a place with delicious food. Accompanying them is their longtime Salvadorian chef, a 22- year veteran of area kitchens. Cavo’s fans will find old favorites, new specials, a larger restaurant and more parking. Other pluses are a completely new kitchen, patio and reappointed three-room dining area and bar where Mexican art and metal wall sconces with Saguero cacti adorn amarillo walls.

The food was not great. Everything looked like they just microwaved cheese on top of it. No good sauces or flavor. Their salsa didn't have any taste and was very watery. Their chorizo con queso was basically sausage with some cheese sprinkled on it and microwaved.
Vegan review: visited early evening on Saturday. So far I have had the spinach enchilada with no cheese or sourcream, white rice and black beans Mexican rice and refried beans not vegan The classic guacamole with everything that comes with it. Fried yucca was very soft like mashed potatoes with the stickiness of sushi rice, personality not a fan. The unsweetened ice tea is delicious, not over steeped and not bitter at all The chips are thin and crisp, and the salsa is mild and served warm not room temp. Our server was Alex and he was great. When I asked for no cheese in my spinach enchilada he asked about the sourcream and the Mexican rice and refried beans he knows what has dairy all the staff were attentive and kept our beverages filled and offered more chips. Keep in mind it was early evening on a Saturday so they weren't crowded yet so I can't speak for what they are like when they are busy. I will definitely come again to try other vegetarian items I can veganize. P.S. They also label what is vegetarian with a pink leaf. Vegetarian options: Marked on the menu with a pink leaf.
This is a nice place for Mexican food in the area. The restaurant atmosphere is very festive and welcoming. There is plenty of seating and is good for large groups as well. The have a tortilla making station right at the entrance The service was prompt and friendly as well. They have a decent selection of food items to pick from. We have been here a few times and have liked all the dishes were have ordered. Their kids menu is decent as well. Our favorites are the fajitas, chimichanga, and seafood dishes my kids likes the chicken fingers. Desserts are good here are well. We like the Tres Leches cake, Sopaipillas, Flan. A great option for Mexican food in the area.
Dine in here for brunch this afternoon. I am giving it 3 stars. Staff service is not good, seems like they are not happy to serve customers. Food is ok, I ordered Beef tacos my fiancé ordered shrimp tacos. I will definitely not come back to dine in, but would give it a try to carry out.
Happy to update. I've been coming to this restaurant since they've opened i believe 2006, they have excellent food and great staff. I like they have whole fish entrees available. Happy they had red snapper today. I recommend to everyone to try the restaurant!Food: 5/5
I called in my order so I didn't have to wait. They told me 15 minutes I didn't get there until like 30 minutes later. My food took a whole hour to make. Your two host that where standing at the booth gave me no explanation or anything. When my Patience wore out I asked them where is my food she then told me a lie and said that they are packing it up. I realize it was a lie when I waited 15 more minutes and my food never came out. I had to ask again where is my food it shouldn't take them that long to pack it she then stated that they were having trouble with the machine in the back something she should have told me in the beginning. She finally bring my food out once I walked out and went to my car. Your service sucks I spend a lot of money in your restaurant and I actually live right across the street. Do better because I'm very cautious about where I spend my hard earned money.
Huge portions, affordable prices, and family-friendly atmosphere. Could easily share most of the entrees. There’s also pleasant outdoor seating. The fajitas is a standout menu item, along with the house made quac. I expected more from the margarita though, it was weak.
Great, authentic Mexican food with great service! Attentive waitstaff, a thorough menu, and cute atmospheric decor. Salsa is soooo good! Sharing meals excluding appetizers incurs an additional $2.95 fee, but the food is so good, I'd highly recommend getting your own plate! I got the combo 3 dinner plate chicken, pork, and shredded beef.
Traditional tile floors and colors in the dining rooms, the tables and chairs needed repairs. The service was _excellent_ our waiters had perfect rhythm and were very attentive. The pre-lunch chips were OK, salsa was not spicy at all, I wished for a spicy green type. Enchalada and barria tacos were fantastic, a home run. Rice and beans were not hot when they arrived, the only flaw from the kitchen.
Good atmosphere, very polite staff and clean space. Waited about half an hour for our food. The chips are very thin and crispy, on the house. Salsa is quite watery but tastes good. I recommended the enchiladas, they're easier to eat than the fajitas. The chicken poblano is sweet so if you've never had sweet sauce with chicken, be aware of that. Flour tortillas are very soft and stretchy, also fresh. Lots of food per plate ordered. I am sensitive to smells and I noticed that my clothes strongly smelled like oil after we left.
