Find your loved one care elsewhere. If you want to add stress to your life and the patient who is struggling to stay alive. My husband, god rest his soul, had enough intuition to know these Vitas so called care givers were adding more anxiety and stress to our lives. I'm so sorry I made the decision to go with Vitas. My husband was so uncomfortable, and my heart broke to see this was the way his life was going to end. I got him transferred to another hospice after 9 days of entertaining Vitas. My husband passed away within a day. I was so blessed that his last breath was at a beautiful, caring Haven.
I would NOT recommend Vitas Hospice at all. I signed paperwork with Vitas for 2 reasons. To provide additional support and care for my mom who was residing at Tuscan Gardens in Palm Coast not recommended, stay away from there and to also support me with communication regarding my mom's overall health and be a liason between me and the nurses at Tuscan Gardens. The communication between the Vitas nurse and myself was little to none. No updates , no comments or concerns, no followup to my concerns. Vitas finally chose to communicate when I was called into a meeting with 6 or 7 Vitas employees, of which I only knew 1 of them, and 3 employees from Tuscan Gardens. In this meeting I, my mom, was given a 45 day eviction notice for reasons discussed the week before that in my opinion were not all valid. Tuscan gardens strategically had Vitas in on the eviction meeting and sadly Vitas chose to support Tuscan Gardens. Without even evaluating my mom, they just listened to what Tuscan said and chose to support Tuscan. I thought hospice was about supporting the patient and their family? This is not the case with Vitas. It's all about keeping Tuscan Gardens happy, and backing up their poor decisions, so Tuscan will refer more residents. They are a " for profit " hospice company, that is the problem. Vitas should have told Tuscan they did not want to be part of this eviction discussion. They should have left the room or asked Tuscan to please meet with me privately. Vitas should have asked Tuscan to let them know when the private meeting was over so they could be there to support me and my mom right afterwords. To add insult to injury I didnt receive a call from Vitas until 6 days after the eviction meeting asking me if I needed help finding another community for my mom. It took them 6 days to start supporting me and my mom. Too late Vitas. Stay away from Vitas and Tuscan Gardens memory care. If you need details feel free to DM me.
I want to thank the angels of VITAS for the loving care they provided for my dear husband at the end of his life. They made it possible for me to take care of my husband when he was bedridden, and to allow him to pass away at home. This meant so much to me and to my family. My husband loved his family and his home, and to be able to pass to his eternal reward at home, surrounded by his family, was a gift that was only possible with the help of the wonderful nurses, minister and staff of VITAS. I know, from the tears they shed with us in the final hours, that their work is a mission of love. I will be forever grateful.
Vitas managed my mom’s hospice care and I would not recommend them again. They do not stand by the level of care they promised and were quick to only want to push morphine. The 1 star is for the nursing staff that finally came - they were pleasant but the management can go kick rocks.
There are not enough words to express our appreciation for the way VITAS took care of my elderly mother. Although the focus was on her as the patient, they all made an exceptional effort to tend to my own personal wellbeing. They dedicated their attention to my mother’s welfare, but at the same time they succeeded in making me feel comfortable, confident, and secure.
We have been with this hospice for a few months now. I am praying other hospices aren’t like this. My mother is in the late stages of Alzheimer’s and their care is absolutely horrible. I have voiced my concerns over and over again on deaf ears. Apparently leaving my mother with a leaking catheter bag for 7 or more hours is acceptable to this place. Everything I have put in place for my mother has been one fight after another with Vitas such as hospital beds and catheters. I cannot handle the horrid attitudes and treatment. If you have another choice avoid this hospice like the plague unless you don’t love your person. I will say the home health aides are amazing which is the ONLY reason I have lasted this long with this company.
2020: Regular bath care for home hospice in Palm Coast, Florida. My mother's nurse reported that she brought up the need of regular bath care at the three preceeding weekly meetings. My mother recieved a bath on Monday, December 23rd and was told another one would be on Friday, December 27th. No one showed. Her birthday was the 28th. She called and left messages throughout the weekend and finally received a bath this morning. It's sad to have spent what may be her last holiday and birthday unclean. Shame on them. There is no need for the agency to contact us about this matter to repeat the information given above. I only ask that the company do the job they are paid to do humainly. 2021 Update: Originally, I had planned to applaud the bath ladies on this update, as they have been on point and reliable. Sadly, mom has missed many showers due to inadequate medication even with a severe leg injury. We've now must move onto the medication issues since Holly is no longer her nurse and Dr. Karnoni is no longer her physician. She was given a new doctor, Dr. Lippmann, and she hasn't had an assigned nurse since approx. November 2020. We have to contact them weekly to complain that her medicine has not arrived and they keep cutting her medicine down with each shipment. This is definitely a quandary as her health is in steady decline. I thought the reason for hospice care was to ease the trials of passing in a humane manner. This is becoming a trigger event for us to say the least. I am left to assume this new doctor, Dr. Lippmann, has a countering philosophy on end of life treatment from that of Dr. Karnoni. ‍
I have dealt with hospice care many times in the past. I was so impressed by that level of care that I even volunteered for a hospice. When I sought help from Vitas here in Flagler County for my mother, I could not have been more disappointed. The level of response and the poor attitude of the team but a horrible taste in my mouth. FYI Vitas is a For Profit hospice. The not for profit ones I have dealt with in 3 counties here in Florida were absolutely amazing. Stay clear of this hospice
