I would give them a zero but then I couldn't leave a review. Worst care. I believe they hastened my mother's death. Do not put your loved one in their care.
I highly recommend the Vitas... My mother broke her hip with dementia they came right away set everything up. she is now resting comfortably for her last days staff work urgently, nurses are great organization of company is excellent. Making the right decision Makes everything easier in the situation.
Our experience with the Carleen, the care manager at VITAS Encino has been dreadful. She denies every one of our care requests until we put them in writing. She is rude and dismissive on the phone. Our most recent issue with them and there have been many leading up to this revolve around her caregiver testing positive for COVID. My aunt is bedridden so we cannot take her out to get her tested and we cannot find any home test kits to purchase. They told us there was nothing they could do. When I pressed Carleen and said that they were now acting as my aunts doctor and everything I was reading said to contact your healthcare professional they told me they do not provide that service. So, ya. Basically, they said "too bad for you, good luck." Bottom line: They told us they would be here for us through this monumentally difficult time for our family. They lied.
DO NOT use this company for hospice. We made the difficult decision to remove my mom from life support and Vitas was to provide the in-hospital hospice. On the day of my mother’s passing, Vitas was no where to be found and it was difficult to get ahold of anyone to assist us. They were supposed to “help us through this difficult time,” but they were absolutely worthless. Save yourself the time and frustration and find a different company to provide hospice care.
Vitas team continually told me my mother was in the final stages of Alzheimer’s dementia, when I told them that I was positive she had a very bad infection and this was causing delirium. They completely ignored me and refused to treat a treatable infection, they refused to even diagnose it with a simple urine test . Fast forward; My mother had a urinary blockage and a very bad UTI which was causing her to go septic and put her in almost kidney failure. I had to fire VITAS, get my mom into the emergency room where they saved her life. My mother suffered for almost 9 days, progressing each day that I talk to no less than five different nurses and doctors working for VITAS. Federal code states that hospice must treat treatable infections. It’s draconian and barbaric not to treat an infection and just push morphine and Ativan on my mom. I refuse to give my mother morphine and they continually pushed me to give it to her- Had I given it to her she would be dead. I guess this was the whole point right? My mother is now much better thank God and thank God that I didn’t listen to them. Be careful if you choose this company. Below from Hospice Patient Alliance The last moments, hours, days and even months a patient has to live, however long they may be, are precious to both the patient and the family. Taking that precious time, that life, away unnecessarily and sometimes intentionally, is a violation of the standards of care and the trust placed by the patient in the hospice professionals. A decision to deny treatment for a treatable infection must be recognized for what it is: a decision to impose death prematurely upon the patient who otherwise would live longer, even though suffering from a terminal illness.
*****FIND A DIFFERENT PROVIDER***** My experience with hospice is 4 months with a different provider and Vitas is far worse then I have experienced. I don't have high expectations since they are looking after a relatively immobile person. However, their communication amongst themselves and with the patients families is HORRIBLE. My 10 year olds have better empathy and expectation setting than our Vitas team. They send us unneeded meds, none of the forms we filled out during admission were communicated to the rest of the team and they don't respond with urgency or care so we repeat the same information on every call & visit for the first 2 weeks of our experience. Whatever system or process they use for communication is horrible and causes stress for the family and the patient. *****FIND A DIFFERENT PROVIDER*****
Never Have I ever met such a compassionate and honest caring healthcare. I worked privately for a patient and she was placed in vitas hospice. They provided all that she needed and gave her full attention beyond what any facility or hospital ever gave her. Never did her or myself feel rushed, ignored , discerned or waved when we or anyone in her family had questions. I could name all the incredible nurses like Lora , Rafael , Wilson, Eddy, Zoreh, Rosie, Sara, Roxana, both of the Cassandra and all those Ive forgotten their names but none the less who showed their kindness and honest concern for her. But each and every one we spoke to on the phone or visited with her or even delivered equipment were beyond kind. This company has far beyond exceeded my expectations and has given everyone who has seen or heard how this patient is cared for a new and posotive look on what truly hospice care is and how it should be. Thank You Vitas for being the amazing people you are and going above and beyond what healthcare is.
Completely awful. They never showed up when they said they would. Never delivered equipment- and we had a patient on life-depending oxygen- but they delivered the oxygen tanks two days late. Thank god we had a back up on hand. We had many other issues- and after three days of endlessly trying to get a nurse, medications and equipment, we changed companies. They are beyond negligent. Avoid at all costs!!
My experience with Vitas who took care of my Dad was just GREAT, gave us more than what we spected, friendly people. The BEST !!!
