Visalia Technical Early College Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support the students at VTEC High School.
Imagine you are taking a tour of a new charter school, Visalia Technical Early College, on the campus of the old COS farm. Students are engaged and even excited about learning as they work on horticulture projects in the green house, track the health and development of the farm animals, or wire an electrical circuit in their Ag Mechanics class. Project-based learning allows for real-world experiences in English, math, biology and social sciences. Small class sizes and student involvement in FFA and volunteer activities create a family atmosphere.
That’s just a regular day at VTEC - Visalia Unified School District’s ag-based charter high school. Through a partnership with College of the Sequoias, VTEC students also work towards early college credit and career technical certifications while still in high school, preparing them for successful transition to college and career options after graduation.
Although this public high school education is free, for many students there can be a financial barrier to taking the college courses at COS. For students wanting to take more than six units, fees are assessed. They must pay for all of their college textbooks as well, which can be quite expensive. The VTEC Scholarship Foundation was founded with the lofty goal of a “VTEC Promise” to cover these extra unit and textbook expenses. The Foundation will also provide scholarships for several graduating seniors to further encourage their college and career goals.
The VTEC Scholarship Foundation established the “VTEC Promise” to provide VTEC students with financial assistance with community college fees and textbooks, specialized classroom materials and equipment, unique educational opportunities & MORE. At the end of the year, college scholarships will also be presented to deserving students. One hundred percent of VTEC Scholarship Foundation’s fundraising profits will go to support VTEC students and their pursuit of a higher education and career opportunities.
VTEC currently sells fresh eggs and produce from the front office and will be opening a Farm Store this year!
