W.D. Lemon & Sons Funeral Home

About

50 Years…a family…a community…a legacy, W.D. Lemon & Sons Funeral Home remains committed to providing professional, caring and thoughtful service.

Description

In February 1959 Willie D. Lemon began a lifelong career in the funeral service industry doing business as Lemon & Helton Funeral Home, Simpson Street, McDonough, Georgia. On October 3, 1965, dedication services were held for a new establishment, Lemon’s Funeral Home, 300 Griffin Street, McDonough, Georgia. Shortly after this time, his wife, Mary, obtained her license and joined the business along with their two sons, Bobby and Sherman. Through dedication, hard work and support of his family, Willie was able to acquire another building and incorporate the business on August 29, 1976 as W. D. Lemon & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., with locations at 300 Griffin Street, McDonough, Georgia and 2090 Joylake Road, Morrow, Georgia. Willie had an expansive vision and clearly understood the definition of servant. In 1994, he extended an opportunity for Dana to end a 7-year career in the corporate sector and join the business. While Willie continued to led his family and serve his community, his health began to decline. Surrounded by his family on September 6, 1997 (his 75th birthday), Willie’s heavenly transition occurred.

With the leadership baton now placed in Mary’s hands, she blossomed from the softer side of the business like a rose with elegance and grace. Unbeknownst to all except her family, Mary emerged to become an astute, assiduous and assertive business leader. She not only sustained the funeral home, but she also led her children and grandchildren into it. In 2003, two additional family members, Sandra and Shannon, were welcomed as funeral directors to the staff. She also engaged the remaining siblings, Dorothy, Katheryn, and Wanda and the grandchildren to become more actively involved in the business.

Upon Mary’s sudden passing in June 2005, the leadership baton was passed along to Bobby. Under his leadership, the business continued to thrive and in 2009, celebrated its 50th year of service to the community. 50 Years…a family…a community…a legacy, W.D. Lemon & Sons Funeral Home, now with Dana Lemon in the leadership role, remains committed to providing professional, caring and thoughtful service to the community. While remaining humble and dedicated servants, the legacy of Willie and Mary Lemon shall live forever.

Upon my first conversation with Mr. Shannon Lemon, I knew the arrangements for my departed loved one would be handled with care, compassion, and professionalism. I was not disappointed. Mr. Lemon and his staff did an impeccable job in all aspects and he personally answered each of my calls even when they were made on the weekends and after hours. We were treated as if we were a part of the Lemon Family. The program for the Service they produced from the draft we provided was first class. Mr. Lemon’s attention to detail was exceptional down to refolding a U.S. Flag presented at the service. I highly recommend Lemon’s for the final chapter in your loved one’s journey. On behalf of the Smith and Schwapp Families, I thank you again Mr. Lemon. COL Alvin D. Schwapp, Jr.
This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a funeral home. They informed us that they didn’t provide escort so we had lined up the butts county sheriffs department to provide it. We sat and waited for they police to show up. Belinda Davis came to the door and told us to come in they were ready. This was at 1:00. The funeral was at 2:00 9 miles away. We told her that we still had people who were on the way. We had been informed that we would leave at 1:30. The sheriffs deputies never showed up. We later learned from a butts county deputy that the escort had been canceled by the funeral home Belinda Davis. We had to risk getting from home to the cemetery and hope no one got hit before we got to the cemetery. They didn’t have any lead car with a caution light or any way to provide any safety for us. Davis was overheard by a family member making the statement that we needed to hurry up because they had other funerals to do. No family car was provided. This was a horrific experience for the entire family. Very unprofessional and uncaring!!!
We used W.D. Lemon for my late grandmother. Their services were phenomenal, and made this difficult process a very stress free experience. Literally everything you think would be an issue, was taken care of. I thank all of the staff for turning this unpleasant situation, into a beautiful tribute to my grandmother! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and our family's heart also!
Called in to get some fees for forwarding my Mothers body Deana lemon was so cold and unfeeling and down right unprofessional to be in this type of business. She treated me as if I was calling for prices on a food menu. I would never use this furneral home if it would cost me .10 cent for everything. Where is her compassion, I was asking about forwarding my mother to another state. She would be 98 next week. Where is the love...!
This was the first and best experience ever. Shannon the funeral director was very professional and helped me so much for my uncle’s funeral. My family was super impressed and everything was done without any issues. Thank you WD lemon and sons!!
