Wabash Valley Railroad Museum

About

Railroad museum featuring two functional railroad interlocking towers, 1899 Vandalia railroad depot, Pennsylvania Railroad cabin car and a train platform.

Description

Featured at this museum are two interlocking towers that have been saved
and are undergoing restoration: Haley Tower and Spring Hill Tower. Once a common sight along US railroads, these towers are a dying breed, and precious few of them have been preserved.

In addition to the two towers the museum is home to a restored 1914 vintage PRR N6b cabin car, a 1890's Vandalia Railroad depot and a Big Four railroad crossing watchman's shanty.

If you like the modern stuff be sure to check out our viewing platform, which puts you up close and personal with CSX trains as they pass WITHOUT trespassing on railroad property.

Mission

Preservation and exhibition of railroad history from the "Wabash Valley" area of Western Indiana and Eastern Illinois.

Loved this place. Very informative tour. Loved all the historical buildings and photos and everything!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
The gentleman that was our tour guide was a nice guy and you could tell he loved preserving Rail history. This particular museum was different for me because of the switching towers. I wish they had more volunteers so they could get to work on their displays. I wish I lived in terre haute area so I could help.
A great museum with a thoughtful and informative tour of the railroad equipment and the towers.Visited onWeekend
Love the history.... Remember where some of the depot's where actually located when I was a kid growing up and the caboose use to be at Dobbs Park and was normally a elementary school field trip each year.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure

Awesome for the history of railroads in Terre Haute and great railfanning!
Great spot for watching and learning about trains!
The tour includes a trip up into the switch tower, where the guide might even let you pull some of the old levers like a switch operator would have. In my hour there, I think 5 trains passed, so it's a great railfanning site, complete with an observation deck for shooting photos/video.
I hope your happy making my 6 year old cry. We came to this site last weekend, very disappointed that you where closed when the sign outside said from June to October. Very disgusted that this place is in a terrible area, my boy is very sad that he didn’t get no waves from the trains. Never coming back.
Best place to go if your a new railfanner! As me being a railfan, and living in the wabash valley area and near WVRM It's always cool to see some vintage stuff!
