One of the owners took me into the actual crematory shed and pulled the box of my father's ashes off a workbench to give to me. I have been traumatized by the experience. I will never forget standing, not in a private room with caring words and comfort, but in front of a giant oven being handed a cheap plastic box of my father's ashes. Which they then tried to charge an amount that would have purchased more than dozens of such temporary boxes. Shameful. From the drafting of the obituary to receiving his ashes, it was a subpar experience and one I would not encourage others into.
I have worked with Walker's for years. They have taken care of all my loved ones and always go the extra effort to make sure everything is taken care of. I have lost my mother in law, husband and sister in law this year and am very thankful for their expertise, care and support.
My husband, Alfred "Sonny" Sanders, died suddenly in our home during the pandemic and a horrible snow storm. I made the mistake of entrusting Walker Funeral Home to take care of his cremation based on the recommendation of several friends. I was so disappointed at the terrible service that I didn't waste the energy to read the online obituary. Sonny's memorial was a couple of weeks ago, and I was encouraged to read the obituary because it was written so poorly. Given that my husband spent many years writing commentaries for The Southern, and received several "golden pen" awards, it was again, a slap in the face to read an obituary that was so poorly written. When I attempted to use the contact me feature on the website, it was not working.
Went to Walker Funeral in Carbondale and received the best and most experience service for my pre arrangement services. The staff was both friendly and courteous. Would highly recommend them for all your funeral services.
There is so many better funeral homes in this area. I would hope you would think before going to Walkers I regret ever having to deal with such unreliable nonresponsive people.
