A friend suggested this place so I figured I'd check it out. It's cafeteria style so there's a wide selection of meats, sides and veggies to choose from. I got fried chicken leg &thigh, corn and mac-n-cheese. Cornbread was also included, but you can choose a roll instead. The cornbread was ok but a bit crumbly. The mac and corn were both decent. The chicken, while cooked well and having an appetizing appearance, was disappointingly bland in flavor. Just needs some salt or seasoning salt or something. I may come back and try some ox tails or something else. The server was very friendly and provided a good explanation of the menu and pricing.
The food here is high as hell, it's good but not worth the money. For one plate I paid $17 for an entree, two sides and cornbread. The portions are small and I didn't get full. I had to go home and put something on top of that just to feel comfortable.
Only giving a three star because the food is actually great...the one time out of three attempts to get it. My problem as an AA with supporting my culture is that most have unpredictable and unreliable operating hours. Went there on attempt #2 and a note was on the door about a vacation. Come today attempt #3, and although the hours say "11-5," but it's 2pm! and they are closed! Sustainable businesses don't operate like this. I'm wasting valuable gas traveling 20 minutes one way for unpredictable. Yes, I cook at home. This was my rare, "eat out day." Parking: Not a lot, especially if they are busy when you go. There is a line starting at about 1040ish.
Best soul food restaurant I've been to in a while. Nice and clean with friendly staff.Food: 5/5
I used to go years ago and the food was great. Today meatloaf tasted burnt and small portions. I ordered a side of smoked neck bones and was charged 10.99 for 3. The service was rude and I couldn't even ask questions about prices or ordering . I will not be back. I haven't missed anything since I last was there. Chose another place that has polite customer service and food for the price.
THIS WAS MY 2ND TIME GOING THERE, AND THE FOOD IS EXCEPTIONAL, THE STAFF IS FRIENDLY....WELL WORTH THE DRIVE...
Been driving past this place for months and there is a huge crowd of cars every single weekend, especially Sunday afternoons. I finally gave it a try yesterday. The food was yummy, perfectly seasoned, and still fresh even though it was almost closing time. The cornbread was some of the best I've had. This restaurant is takeout only right now and I suggest if you are finicky about social distance you will want to go during a Tuesday afternoon instead of weekends. Definitely a "regulars" spot, and I was a newbie. It was obvious that it was my first visit, as I didn't know what/how to order before I got there, staff wasn't super patient or helpful to answer questions. Luckily I love almost every thing on the menu so I just guessed and ordered. I wasn't disappointed in my selection, and ill go back because I really want to try the mac&cheese. And for that cornbread... it was delicious.
I expected better! We received food for Thanksgiving and it was a disappointment. The dressing was dry but it had a nice taste, the yams were okay, the corn was from the can and the gravy was cream of chicken. The sweet potato pie was not sweet and the crust was soggy. The pie had a dark tone so I just knew it was gonna be good! Disappointed all around!! You would think with the money you spend, you will get a better quality of food. I don't know what the other food taste like, but this was not that good.
Hands down one of THE BEST places to eat!! Lots of variety and friendly employees. Tastes like somebody's grandma is in the kitchen making it ALL with love . Chicken and dressing alone is worth the trip!! Not matter what you get, you WILL NOT be disappointed
Great food and service loved the entire experience. I may have looked out of place standing in line. But this will be my go to restaurant whenever I'm in NLR....
