It’s always fun to nip in here - it truly is a General Store and covers everything from groceries to fabric to hardware and anything else the surrounding Mennonite community needs. Worth a visit! NOTE: Cash or Debit Only
I always love coming here because this store is a hidden gem. It is a good place to experience a little bit of Mennonite life as they speak Pennsylvania Dutch around the store. It's also a prime spot to watch buggy traffic on any given day. You can buy all kinds of things here, such as fabrics, Mennonite hats or clothes, books including German ones, an ice cream cone, and so on. There is limited parking, but it is fairly wheelchair accessible although the front door isn't automatic. They take cash, cheque, debit, and credit.
Great country store. Lots of country baking and baking products. Great selection of tools hardware and clothing materials and much more.
Nice place to stop to grab some butter tarts to go. Happily, there is actually no butter in the tart, which makes it dairy-free -- a nice find for those with dairy allergies!
I might just have to say this is your one stop shop! Great selection of local products, paired with common everyday needs. I couldn't leave without some local curds and pepperettes!
We just love this store. Whenever we were in the area we would always stop in for work boots, winter underwear, suspenders, hats, cooking utensils, baking supplies, etc. We especially liked the Mennonite home baking, lemon tarts, long johns and multigrain cookies. Since we moved away to Windsor five years ago we really miss the Wallenstein General Store. I am happy to report that they are willing to ship anything to us at our new address. They are always so accommodating. It is truly a wonderful store. Thank you. Hilary and Luigi
I am soon turning 70 years old. I was raised in Wallenstein and throughout the fifties and early sixties until my parents decided to leave for England but then shortly returned to Cambridge/Kitchener, I have many fond memories of this store. It was where we would get our mail, buy ice cream cones, penny candy, 7 cent pop, potato chips and my mom would easily walk in to get the usual food staples. The store has not really changed that much. In fact very much the same. I remember the counter was in the middle of the entrance where now it is to the side of the entrance. Still remember the little bench at the shoes section from the 1950’s. Not being Mennonite did not matter for me. I still have a little promotional pocket knife saying “Frey’s Wallenstein General Store” given to me in the late 1950’s. The hamlet was a wonderful place for a young child to grow up and this store was a part of it. Whenever on my travels and whenever close to Wallenstein, my wife and I always stop in to say hello and buy some great valued products. Always friendly and accommodating! If driving by, please stop in and take a little bit of time to explore an interesting window of the past in a true authentic country general store. The Mennonite home baked goods are the best!
Wallenstein General Store seems to have a bit of everything, a true general store. Today while out on a long bike ride this store was my savior in the form of a homemade ham and cheese sandwich, power aid and an ice tea. If I had more pockets I would have sampled the many baked goods and other homemade food items like potato salad. Will be back! Thanks
The Wallenstein General Store is the most amazing general store/post office. Anything you want/need. Food, boots, fabric, hardware, toys, groceries. Home baked pecan tarts. I take my tour guests here and they are always impressed. Great service. Very good prices too!
What an interesting store. Packed with tons of stuff from rubber boots, fabric, seasonal fruit & vegetables, hardware, bulk food, beautiful plates from Czech Republic, glassware, sewing supplies, work clothes, really good hat$ for the local Mennonite community. Busy place. Parking alongside store. Right on main highway. Can be a tad pricey. Friendly staff. Worth a visit.
