The Walnut Lodge strives to provide a community vehicle for personal growth and enrichment through classes in yoga, movement & theater.
Yoga Class Descriptions:
Yoga 1 - The underpinnings of the discipline including posture, breath, focus, core strength and flexibility. Learn the basics so that all your practice can be safe and informative.
Yoga 2 - Builds on the information of Yoga 1. Postures become more challenging and the flow of the class is more integrated and complex.
Yoga 2.5 - Inversion class for the Intermediate to Advanced student. Will accommodate both those new to inversions (students must be at an intermediate level) and the advanced student.
Yoga 3 - Back bending. Learn the techniques that make back bending safe and attainable. We'll utilize postures and exercises to increase awareness and strength needed to accomplish these challenging prosture.
Primary Series Part 1 - We'll build the Ashtanga Primary Series over the year. Also called "Yoga Therapy", this combination of postures and breath builds on all the work we've previously done in Yoga 1.6. Appropriate for those who took Ron's class before, with accommodations for all ability levels.
Yoga Flow - A practice linking postures together with breath and awareness. No instruction.
Revitalize - Begin your Monday with a posture series designed to get you moving into a productive week. We'll get out the kinks and open up our energy pathways. Open to all levels.
Foundations - A beginner's practice that establishes a basis for the fundamental postures. Great for the beginner yoga student.
4 Classes at 4:15 - The following classes were conceived of as a series but can be taken individually to fulfill whatever need you have. Taken as a block, these fou days will Balance, Restore, Energize and "Sweat" you into a more integrated and healthy relationship with your own life and schedule! Teachers...I listened! ~ Abbey Alter.
Sweat - Monday - For the beginner or the more advanced student; work on core, arm strength and alignmnet in the vertical and horizontal postures. Great basics for the beginner and an in-depth review for the advanced student.
Restore - Tuesday - This class will integrate fundamental postures with deeper breath and mental focus. Supported and therapeutic postures can enable us to unplug from an otherwise chaotic world. We'll explore various methods where yoga practice can neutralize the stress we carry in our bodies to Restore our Mind and Body to a more balanced system.
Energize - Wednesday - For the beginner of any age and experienced yoga students that would like to add a bit of movement to their practice. Most of this work will be done standing and will involve linking breath to movement both standing and traveling across the floor. There will be no weight bearing arm positions so it is a class suitable for conditions such as arthritis or wrist impingements. Minimal floor work with modifications, if necessary, for students that have difficulty transitioning from floor to stnading. That said, there will be transitional work, again with modifications provided, from floor to standing, to increase the ability to perform this daily required movement with greater ease.
Balance - Thursday - Balance can mean many things...in this class balance will mean just that. Balance. This class will work on the coordination, skills, postural awareness, muscular strength and mental control needed to achieve both active and passive balance. Work will be stationary and locomotive. Suitable for all ages...7 to 107!
