Words cannot express how welcoming and loving Wards funeral home was. Extremely clean, professional and caring. At the darkest hour and worst time of my life they treated me, a complete stranger, like family. Steven and John Wayne went over and beyond to assist my family in giving my mom the going home she deserved. I am in tears writing this review. Thank you guys
Choosing a funeral home when a death is imminent is a difficult task even for a seasoned person in the industry. My aunt had given me this task. I searched area funeral homes and after reading the history of Wards, I called and received a call back within 5 minutes. John, called and I explained the situation and he was very understanding, and the love of Jesus radiated through his caring voice. When my uncle passed on the snow weekend, he assured my aunt that as soon as the roads were open, he would bring her beloved husband into his care. In the days of planning his memorial service, he assisted her and answered the many questions she had gave her peace of mind. The day of the memorial service, John and his wife were there to direct the guests and stayed in contact with my aunt and let us know what order we would be doing the service. Just before, the family walked into the sanctuary he came back and gave us a word of encouragement and stayed as the Pastor prayed with us. After the service ended, he was sure to give the programs and book to my cousin and let her know that he was there for them. Thank you, John, for your professionalism, caring and support of our family during this difficult time. This is your ministry and the families that you served today and, in the future, will be very satisfied with the service you provide. We are thankful for you and that you were the funeral home that God led us to. Blessings to you and your staff.
Wards Funeral Home is top notch in their service to grieving families! They go above and beyond to make sure the family is treated with respect and dignity! John Wayne and his family are hands down the most compassionate people in the business! They treat each family like their own, because once served by them you are a part of their family!
John Wayne Abernathy and his incredibly blessed staff far exceeded our expectations on handling my father's services. Mr. Abernathy took my call before business hours and we met to make arrangements for my father. We were immediately treated like family and welcomed with open arms. Mr. Abernathy listened to our needs, answered questions with sheer professionalism, discussed the packages that best fit our needs, and allowed us to pick and choose what would fit our families budget best. There is options that fit any budget and we were not pressured to get more than we needed. We were in and out within 30-45 minutes. We were able to get options for monuments to go on my fathers grave as well-one stop shop! : God equipped Mr. Abernathy with a calling to this ministry and it shows. Preparing for a funeral is extremely difficult and we all have to do it at some point in our lives. I highly recommend Ward's Funeral Home in Gainesville to handle your needs for your loved ones. Everything was PERFECT from start to finish! My father looked the best he has looked in over 10 years, wow it was certainly impressive. My father was finally at peace. From preparing my fathers body, to handling our servicing needs, to set-up at the grave site to getting my father to his final resting place beside my mother; AMAZING!!!! Mr. Abernathy, My family and I could never thank you enough for your stellar professionalism from A-Z. Your light shines bright and we are so thankful for all you done to help my family get through this journey. May God Bless you and your families always!!! Please continue to light the way just as our father in heaven is so proud of all you do for the community and the passion you have in what you do. Forever grateful and blessed because of you and your elite team. Randy, Bonnie and Skylar Abernathy of Cleveland, GA
Not even a week ago my Dad suddenly passed away. Our family relied on Wards to honor my fathers life and we could not have made a better decision. It was refreshing to make arrangements centered around truly celebrating my Dad. They were so respectful of our wishes, going above and beyond in ways we never imagined. They took note of special, unique things we mentioned in conversation about Dad and made it a tangible part of celebrating him during visitation. It was a cruel reality walking into the room to view my Dad BUT looking around the room at how his obituary was put on a picture of Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium because we mentioned he loved the Bulldogs, actually made me smile. Things we loved about Dad were listed in a frame for visitors to read when they signed the memory guest book. They constantly checked on my family and those that visited, all of the staff were genuinely concerned with how we all were. They thought of things we didn’t, taking care of every single detail so that we could try to process our loss and celebrate his life. Every single person on staff was attentive, caring, friendly and professional. Wards more than made a difficult time for our family an unbelievably smooth process.

Our family has such high regard for Ward’s Funeral Home. The Staff is so compassionate - caring for the grief-stricken family with never-ending concern. The words you hear “It is our honor to serve the family” are not just words because their actions prove they are truly honored to help families needing their services. So many comforting remembrances they offer to families as the family plans the Celebration of the loved one’s life. They offer grief support to aid the family in coping with the loss of a loved one. I share this because our family has experienced the loss of a family member and Ward’s Funeral Home has taken great care of us with great respect and great attention to our every need. Thank you John Wayne Abernathy for all you do for families when they find themselves needing direction and guidance for these life changing events. You and Your Staff are second to none.
The staff at Ward's funeral home made the sudden passing of my dad so much more bearable. The planning process went so smoothly & even still in a state of shock our family's questions were met with compassion and understanding. There were so many small details that brought smiles to our faces during such a sad time- a throw blanket was made with my dad's photo with a few of his favorite things on it, one being UGA football. And the Georgia football fight song was played right before the service started which brought smiles and laughter through tears because my daddy would've loved it. I thank the staff at Ward's so much because of their willingness to serve and help during one of the hardest days we've had to face.
John Wayne, Wendi & Lauren Abernathy are truly called to be in this business and love on others in their time of grief. We lost our Dad unexpectedly and too soon, but they went into overdrive making sure that his celebration of life was perfect and unique to him. They were professional, compassionate and patient as we navigated the planning process. They were always close-by, checking on us and offering support throughout the week. They added extra touches to make sure that we included much of my dad’s interests into the visitation and funeral service, down to how the obituary was printed, the slideshow & even the UGA fight-song playing my Dad would be SO proud!. I’ve been to other funeral homes, but they are top-notch and I couldn’t imagine celebrating my Dad with anyone else. I will forever be grateful for these sweet people & God calling them to this business. They made a time of grief a true reflection of the good times with my Daddy.
Thank you Ward’s Funeral Home! I was very pleased with the services as well the positive and uplifting attitudes from John Wayne, Wendy, and the directors. My grandpa looked great!
