Washington Park High School

Description

Washington Park High School is a public, four-year high school in Racine, Wisconsin, USA, with an enrollment of over 2,400 students. Its school colors are blue and orange. The school's mascot, the panther, was adopted by the Class of 1949, reportedly because of a nearby Native American effigy mound in the shape of a panther.HistoryThe school traces its roots to 1852 when Racine High School, the first public school in Wisconsin, opened. In 1926, the Racine School Board decided to replace Racine High School with a new school that eventually became Park. The new Washington Park High School opened in 1928. The north side of Racine also received its own high school the same year when land donated by the malted milk magnate William Horlick was utilized by the Racine School board for another high school named in Horlick's honor. The school building was designed by the Racine architect J. Mandor Matson. The school mascot is the panther.Much of the history and memorabilia (including art, awards and traditions) from Racine High School were moved to Park. The statue of Joan of Arc that was donated by the Racine High School Class of 1904 is displayed in Park's foyer. The school's newspaper, The Beacon (a reference to Racine's Wind Point Lighthouse), and the school yearbook Kipikawi (a Native American name for the Root River), were also both carried over from Racine High School.

Updated Review - 1/13/23: We went to Washington Park High School again, to watch the Boys Varsity Basketball Team play Horlick High School. It was a great game. We felt safe. There plenty of police, the parking lots were well lit, they separated the students from each school going to the concessions, and everyone got along. The best part was Park defeated Horlick… 75-51 —————————————————————————— Original Review: My wife and I had the pleasure of working the concessions booth at the Washington Park High School vs. Kenosha Tremper High School basketball game. Because of that, we saw both sides of the game... Inside and out. The gym is beautiful. The floor is great. The bleachers are nice. The scoreboardnis easy to read. It is a great place to watch a basketball game. On the other side, the concessions stand was clean and ready to go when we got there. They gave us plenty of plastic gloves to keep the food safe. Everyone was super helpful, friendly, and did whatever was needed to make things work smoothly. I can't wait to go back to watch another basketball game!
I spent the four longest, most miserable years of my life at this hellhole. The teachers are incompetent, the staff turns a blind eye to most violence, and the student body is like a grotesque anthropology experiment where the loudest and most belligerent achieve most recognition. Fighting and gangs are rampant, drugs are commonplace, and daily security is nonexistent for most students. Their textbooks are outdated, scandals between students and teachers occur, and no one pretends to give a damn about anything but sports. Worst. School. Ever.
Has great seafood. Love their the Shrimp de Böök. Don't trust Drake Ludvigsen though. He'll tell you to burn in a house fire.
When I went to Washington park high school, I really enjoyed it there all of the friends that I had there were very nice people.
Its a good school but needs more programs to better younger people for the future.
The facilities are awful! Don't send your kids to this prison yard!
A lot of security issues outside this high school
