I enjoy hiking, and biking here as there is a wide variety of trails and paths available. My favorite thing to do is to bike down to salmon creek from WSU, and go fishing. If you live in the area, check it out!
Beautiful campus with views of Mt. St. Helen’s and Mt. Hood from a single point of the campus. If you go there, don’t forget to hike in the cougar trail. You will enjoy the pleasant murmuring sound of the creek and green beauty around.
I'm a freshman undergrad just starting out at WSUV. I love the vibes, the campus is pretty, and the professors are great sometimes they do misunderstand questions; we're all human here, and I love the availability of nature views and trails. I'm a druid AKA animism, so everything is important and everything has a soul and love the availability of my lifeblood friend nature. I am floating on scholarships and part-time work, because I can't afford $10,000 a year and my parents are still paying off their own loans from college, and I refuse to take out any loans whatsoever. So far, so good. My main two complaints are nerdy things...but I don't like that the Vancouver campus only offers Spanish for language courses I'd like to have French & German at least, if not Russian, Italian, etc. and there is no music class or choir or vocal performing class or club. I'm in the process of attempting to start a club but everyone is busy and I don't know any professors or staff to oversee the club so I'm at a bit of a standstill. Hopefully next semester that can happen. I love the Student Diversity Center, especially being a druid and self-proclaimed "witch", which literally just means I manipulate the energies around me to help people and make people's lives hopefully happier and less stressful, because the people are very open and accepting and it's a judgment-free zone. The LGBT+ community, the people of color, people of all kinds of religious and social backgrounds, everyone is welcome. It's a great place to relax and de-stress, though for the distractible types like me not a great place to study. I finished a fiction story in the SDC and would love to spend more time there when my schedule allows. :
Went there solely to walk around the campus so I don't know anything about the school but it was a beautiful walk. On a clear, sunny day, we could see details on My St Helens and Mt Hood, and even peekaboo views of Adams. There were lots of other people there to exercise but there was plenty of room to social distance
Wsuv is completely closed down and all classes are currently available online. This campus, it's small, but has all the big resources. Edit: Classes are open and everything is back to normal.
There are very nice and new modern engineering and other buildings which start open until late evening with lots of study areas and ther blue plaid parking!!!
Greta school with great grounds. Go there all the time with my wife for walks. They have a lot of trails that you can hike on. Very beautiful campus. The cafeteria there is also very good, but you gotta be a student to eat there, which is a shame.
Peaceful campus and the library is open for students. The librarians and staff are spectacular. Give them a grade A+++. Student services is absolutely awesome and goes above and beyond to help. Such dedicated staff. Just wish the campus was a bit more disability accessible.
This campus is a truly wonderful place. I enjoy the faculty tremendously, as well as the fellow students. This campus really seems focused on helping students in as many ways as possible; I appreciate that immensely. The focus seems to be on education, and occasionally ping pong here. It's nice to study in a lighthearted atmosphere without the distractions and frustrations of a bigger campus. Edit: Although, the year I graduated I started to notice some few pernicious ideas on campus. Such as a privilege board where students apologized for their race. Political movements on campus that were one-sided. I had a 5 star review but the university started regularly sending me politically motivated emails. I didn't feel that these emails are relevant for most alumni, and it's a shame so much time, money, and energy is spent on political trends rather than education. I memba the days when people judged you for the content of your character, now this university cares about identity above character. Edit: The university kept sending me emails after graduating which is totally common. What I really dislike was the subject matter of these emails. They became increasingly political and in support of things I do not personally want my former college to be doing or saying.
WSU-V offers students resources that they cannot find at other institutions. I can't tell you how many times my grades have been saved by a quick visit to the Writing Center or how helpful the various spaces across campus have been for studying. Speaking of the Writing Center, it offers a wonderful social space to get work done while having a conversation. For someone like me, having a space where socialization is open but not chaotic I find the cafeteria to sometimes be a bit too busy lets me study at ease, though there are places on campus where silence is encouraged such as a portion of the library for those who enjoy quieter spaces. Now, for a trickier subject; Parking. Don't be afraid of the parking fees here. If you're showing up 4 days a week for classes I know a lot of us like having Fridays off you're still parking ~128 days out of the year assuming you go for Fall/Spring classes. A red-tier parking pass for the Fall/Spring terms only cost me about $130, so that's roughly $1/day for parking, and you're always guaranteed to have a spot open because they limit the amount of permits they sell to how many parking spots are available. On top of that, parking fees cover campus services such as door unlocks if you lock your keys in your car, campus First Aid training programs and on-site defibrillator maintenance, lighting on-campus, and more. On top of this, the tiered parking system allows you to park in cheaper lots if you buy a more expensive pass. So if you buy an Orange pass, you can park in any of the gray, red, green or orange lots. I've never had an issue finding a parking spot, and I've only ever had a red pass. I highly recommend seeking an education at WSU-V. With help from the financial aid office, college could be more affordable than you think.
