WCNS strives to help children enhance their sense of curiosity and their enthusiasm for learning.
Wellesley Cooperative Nursery School is dedicated to the whole development of the young child. For children, their play is their work. Daily activities foster opportunities for genuine intellectual growth, advancement of motor skills, creative expression, and social and emotional growth. The preschool strives to help children enhance their sense of curiosity and their enthusiasm for learning. The large interior space in the school provides children opportunities to gather in groups of varying size, suiting a wide range of learning activities. The play yard is also a large space, and even in winter the children have outside playtime.
Located in a picturesque and historic barn near the Charles River Falls in South Natick, the Wellesley Cooperative Nursery School -- convenient to the suburban communities of Natick, Wellesley, Medfield, Needham, Dover, and Sherborn -- proudly approaches its sixty-fifth birthday. Having begun as a true cooperative in 1945 by a group of enthusiastic mothers in part of what is now the Sprague Elementary School in Wellesley, the school relocated in 1947 to its current location and what was then known as Shaw's Barn, a community center remembered for family activities such as square dancing and tumbling.
Although no longer a true cooperative, parents continue to be active members of the school community, and they participate in a variety of activities such as reading, cooking, art, music, field trips, or just visiting. Wellesley Coop offers a strong student to teacher ratio and a staff that averages fifteen years of experience at the school.
Wellesley Cooperative Nursery School is licensed by the Office of Early Education and Care of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
