West High School is the oldest public high school in the U.S. state of Utah. It was founded in 1890, and it is part of the Salt Lake City School District. Its original name was Salt Lake High. The school colors are red and black and the school mascot is a panther. It has a current enrollment of 2,840.FacilitiesWest High is located in Salt Lake City, close to downtown, at 241 North 300 West. The historical structure still functions as the school's main building, and has undergone major restorations. It is surrounded by newer buildings, and the newly updated stadium. West High is easily accessible because it is three blocks away from the UTA TRAX line (Salt Lake valley's light rail system) and close to the Gateway Mall. Several films have been filmed at West High and it has been noted in the History Channel's Gangland TV series.RoboticsFostering skills in engineering, leadership, and teamwork in all its members through the process of creating a competitive and innovative robot. The team strives to be competitive while remaining gracious, recognizing that competition is mutually beneficial to all the competitors in the FIRST Robotics Competition and the FIRST Tech Challenge. The team also focuses upon innovation, respect to each other and our competitors, and giving back to our community. Many of our robotics participants are admitted into, or are noticed by colleges. West's Robotics teams include: Team 3006, Elevated Engineering, Robo Raptors, and Black Ice Robotics.
