Alpha Lambda Delta is the national honor society that recognizes academic excellence during a student's first year in college. The purpose of this honor society is to encourage superior academic achievement among freshmen and to promote leadership early in the student's collegiate experience. By vote of the membership, each newly inducted member of Alpha Lambda Delta commits himself/herself to participate in 15 hours of community service prior to graduation.
Membership is open to first year students who earn a cumulative average of at least 3.5 either in their first semester of enrollment or in their first year of enrollment prior to initiation. No incompletes or failures can be on record. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program and have not earned more than 19 credits at the time of initial enrollment. The offer of membership is only extended once and may not be repeated after it has been declined.
Once inducted, membership is lifetime and is maintained on both a national and local chapter basis. Prior to graduation 15 community service hours must be completed. Members who graduate from Western New England University are afforded the privilege of wearing honors cord designation provided their 15 hours of community service are complete.
The purpose of the Western New England University Alpha Lambda Delta chapter shall be to set a standard for incoming freshman as role models in academic excellence, to become active participants in the community through service projects and events, and to help students establish goals as responsible members of society.
