The staff at Wilderness Bay are great. We called upon the staff at Wilderness Bay during a windstorm. They came out and helped and would take no compensation in return. When I offered Jay told me to “pay it forward” instead. I’ll be back but hopefully under different circumstances!Service: 5/5
We were stuck at the nearby portage during a windstorm and asked if we could wait the storm out or potentially get a tow or load our canoes on the pontoon that someone there owned and pay for a ride across the lake. They didn't kick us out but were certainly not welcoming. Everyone said they had no idea who owned the pontoon, which ended up being a lie since one of the folks driving it later was someone we had talked to. An hour or two later my companions went overboard in the lake as we were crossing it and a member of the lodge saw and came and towed them to safety; thank you to that man and his two grandkids :. A short while later I saw the pontoon leave the lodge area and go right by us while we continued over the lake and offered no help. I rushed to catch them before they left the parking lot but couldn't quite get there. One of the people I saw get out was absolutely one of the folks we talked to at the lodge. "Minnesota nice" defined.
Husbands family has been going here and renting out 1/2 the place for approx 10 years. I was stuck over at their private landing where they are supposed to provide pick up and drop off to get to resort. I called to get picked up after running into town. I called for 2.5 hrs left 4 messages and no one would answer. Their pontoon with the key was at the landing. After 2.5 hrs of no one coming to get me or answering I took the pontoon over to the resort. I told Jay exactly why I took it. He and his mother just wrote us a letter stating they have no idea why I would take pontoon and it was wrong what I did?? I was stuck at their landing. They have a direct phone to resort and a sign that says if no one answers, call back in a few minutes. I called for over 2.5hrs!!! This place use to be great! Since the father/husband of current owners passed away the "resort" has gone way down hill! Try Shmittys instead! Cabins are getting really old and musty smelling. It's not worth the money anymore!
An amazing experience! Beautiful blue water, wonderful family get-a-way, fantastic views, all comforts of home with being in the wilderness. Our family goes every year and enjoys the 4th of July bash with homemade ice cream, Dorthy's Rootbeer, fresh baked treats and fantastic fireworks display. So many things for all to enjoy!
We stay here every year! Jay and Sue and everyone are so welcoming and friendly!! This place is amazing and we'll worth the money! If you like a quiet peaceful getaway then this is it for sure!Rooms: 5/5
