Went on memorial day. Absolutely blown away how big this place really is. Time has definitely taken its toll on the building, but still a stunning place to see.
What can we say. This place is breathaking and peaceful. 9 family members and 3 generations are here for eternity ! Thanks to Wilhelm for always having a great staff and clean and comfortable facilities !
Wilhelm's is a lovely, historic facility, but I am giving them 1 star because of their poor record keeping and service. And being that their main function is to serve family and friends, it is disappointing when they don't. I came in last week to visit a dear friend's memorial and was given a map with the location. I couldn't find it after looking for about 45 minutes, which was not comfortable on a hot day. When I went back to the reception desk the lady who gave me the map explained she was by herself and had no staff to help me. She was pleasant and professional and assured me there would be someone to help next time I came back. I returned the next week and the same lady helped me and was again with little staff to back her up. One associate was in a meeting another off the grounds etc. So, when she gave me the same map and directions as before I told her they were in error. She told me I probably missed the location which is easy to do in such a massive facility and I assured her that I had not. But she persisted telling me I probably had. Finally, upon rechecking her volumes of records she found the problem. The family I was looking for had the location of their memorial changed a year ago and someone had failed to update the move in their system. She told me this was not an isolated type incident. So, armed with the new information I was able to easily, quickly find the memorial I had come to see. However, I just want to let Wilhelm's know that I had to make two trips instead of one, was not given much help, was told I was probably the one in error and did not receive an apology for my wasted time. Come on Wilhelm's, surely you can do better!
Treated horribly by Sarah Louis. Had another encounter recently in which the staff involved were rude and even dishonest. They have their own best interests at heart. There are so many other places with kind and caring employe especially in this industry. I would like to remove my 5 family members from this place as I don’t even enjoy stepping on the grounds here. I also have never left a bad review but this place is that bad. Run away and find something much better. Just across the river there is a much better place.
Thank you guys for the excellent service, compassion, exceptional attention to all our needs. I greatly appreciate it. Especially I would like to thank Carina for her kindness and good heart while handling our procedure of burial of our mom. She is so professional and compassionate. Thanks again!
Visited on Memorial Day when it is open to the public. It is a really beautiful place.
Our family has 3 generations here. I’ve been going to put flowers on tombs for 60 years. My daughters have gone with me since they were kids, and learned the family history about people they never got the chance to meet. The remodeling done over the past 20 years has made it much nicer there. I plan on continuing the tradition, and being put to rest with my family.
Our family is originally from the Portland area so when my Uncle passed in September of 2011 the family used Wilhelm's for his arrangements. They were professional, caring and reasonable in their pricing. So when my Dad passed away in April of 2017 in Arizona, we immediately called Michael and he loving cared for every detail lifting a load of burden off our shoulders at a time of deep sorrow! With excellence he handled everything from arrangements to care for the body in Phoenix and having it shipped to Portland arranging the flight and letting us know so family could travel with his body to going the extra mile and contacting the local fire department for extra pall bearers we requested.my Dad was a retired fire fightersuch a memorable part of his burial to have those firefighters there! His explanations regarding needed products & services were kind, clear and extremely fair and we are SO GRATEFUL for how we were treated in a time when we could have easily been taken advantage of because of our sorrow. Thank you Wilhelm's, and especially Michael, for your integrity and generosity in serving our family. We deeply appreciate it! May God continue to bless you for your excellent service!
I have always thought that healing from grief begins after the funeral or service. I can now say it can begin much sooner. Our family suffered a tragic, sudden loss with my sister's death on a late Friday afternoon. Mike Ashe, and his son Ben, had facilitated my mom's viewing and cremation almost 14 years ago. When I got the call from my nephew of my sister's passing, I looked up Mike's number and called. Mike gave me the number for Heritage and assured me everything would be taken care of and that he would meet with the family on Monday. I don't know the name of the man who answered the phone, but he was very kind and assured me someone would be there right away. I don't know who the guys were who picked up my sister with such compassion and dignity. I don't know the people who catered our reception. I do know Mike's name, and he helped us through the planning, viewing and reception with great care and compassion for the entire family. I realized as I drove home after all the goodbyes, healing of the grief began from the first phone call thanks to your great staff. Coments I received: My nephew regarding all Mike's help, "He is so amazing and I'm so grateful for all he has done for us " My oldest sister, "That was so unbelievably wonderful." My niece, "The Time of Relection was beautiful and mom looked so peaceful."
A tour of this amazing Mausoleum is a fascinating way to look at 150 years of Portland history, art and craftsmanship. The things that have changed over time and those that have not, give great insight into our culture. Michelle, our docent, presented the story of this facility with respect for those interred and dedication to the Wilhelm mission.
