As of April 2, 2013, is known as the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies (Perry Center) in honor of Dr. Perry, the 19th Secretary of Defense, who proposed founding the center more than 15 years ago at the II Defense Ministers of the Americas Conference.
