Description

The William S. Hart Park and Museum is the former retirement home of the famed silent film actor and director who produced a series of hit Western movies in the early 1900s. His beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival Style Mansion -- now the Museum -- exhibits an impressive collection of Western artwork by noted artists Charles M. Russell, Frederic Remington, and Joe de Yong, as well as mementos from early Hollywood, personal furnishings and effects, and artifacts representing multiple Native American cultures. The Museum also includes an historic 1910 Ranch House that exhibits Hart's tack and saddle collection, personal furnishings, and additional Hollywood mementos. Both the Mansion and the Ranch House are located in scenic William S. Hart Park, where guests may enjoy visiting a live collection of farm animals, a herd of American bison, a vast picnic area, a series of hiking trails, and a charming Western-themed Gift Store.

Free guided tours of the Mansion are started every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour during our hours of operation. Last tour starts 30 minutes before closing. The Ranch House is open for self-guided tours.

We hated that the museum was closed because of Covid but my husband and I enjoyed hiking up to it. We saw bison and birds and the beautiful building and Mary Ellen’s tea room. It was peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed a picnic on the lawn at a picnic table. It was a perfect length walk.
I remembered he fed his dog chocolates, and there was a blonde young man around 20s, he was a guide I supposed, there was no one in the museum so he told us a lot of stories, I was 12 and I remembered nothing, he was so nice and drove us down the hill.
Good fun for walking around and seeing all of the animals; Hart's Mansion is always interesting to look around in. After the self guided house tour, there was even a craft corner where kids could make a picture frame in the shape of a horse shoe for free. Staff was very friendly and made the experience all the more enjoyable!
This park indeed is a hidden gem per previous comments. I love hiking here! The Bisons are such great listeners. The views are amazing the higher you go.
I thought this place was so cool because almost everything inside the house was from 90 years ago which i thought was cool. The mansion was huge. 10,000 square feet to be more exact! I definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking about it and the views are amazing!!
Wonderful resource for local interests. Historic setting, plentiful park areas for picnics, quinceaneras, or just a fun day. Barnyard, trading post, and railway cars, oh and bison too.
We had such an amazing experience at this beautiful home. The guides were amazing, it was a beautiful day and an absolutely spectacular time exploring.
I love this place. It's beautiful, peaceful, serene, interesting and a wealth of history. They have restrooms, plenty of parking, a gift shop and a picnic area. There are several places to explore. The accompanying photo was taken in The Ranch House Museum located near the parking lot. You can also take a walk up to the main house. Along the way there are places to check out and it's possible to see the free roaming bison. They are located in the hills on the other side of the fence. Once you get to the house, you can take a guided tour. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The folks here are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. If you can't do the walk due to an impairment ask about driving up. Even though I've been here on many occasions, I manage to learn something new or see something different each time.
Beautiful place to visit, great nature views, city views, trails, museum, and buffalo. A lot to see and do in one place and for free. Hopefully it stays free.
I never thought this gem was behind the park that we pass by very often. There's a nice little hike until you get to the museum, where there are hourly free tours.
