Winganon Space Capsule

About

The "capsule" is a cement mixer that wrecked between 59-61. It is a local landmark and roadside attraction.

Description

The mixer wrecked when the Winganon bridge was being built in 1959. The cement hardened and the truck was hauled away while the mixer was abandoned due to weight. It has become a local landmark and roadside attraction. Over the years it has been painted many times and the current theme is as a NASA escape pod / nose cone. The current theme was done on 9/25/11 to celebrate the 5th wedding anniversary of a local couple. Please stop by for a visit, take a pic, and upload it here.

Have heard about this thing for years! Neat that they decided to paint it and have fun with it!
This is a cool FREE roadside attraction that may soon disappear! You need to see this now, as a soon to begin road construction project threatens to remove it permanently.
This is a quirky thing to check out, however, I wouldn't make a special trip just for bragging rights. The pictures you've seen of it pretty much tell the tale. Nevertheless, if you see other places along the way then certainly drop by. Places I incorporated into this trip included the Galloway Totem Park, the old church/school house off Highway 28 and the old buildings of Chelsea. Thus, the capsule by itself is a 2-3 star experience, but for me, with the other stops, a 5 star trip. Tap on photo to convert to full size.

Neat little piece of local history
In 1959 a cement truck crashed and it's been here since. People painted it to look like a space capsule - genius. It really does look like one. You can park in the entry to a farmer's field about 50 yards away.
Super cool and easy visit! Literally right on the side of the road!! We totally had a blast taking fun pictutes here :
If you are in the area and have a few minutes to spare stop by and check it out. Really cool that someone took the time to do this.
I had no idea what this was. It was exciting to see because, for a moment, I thought I was looking at a real piece of a spacecraft. It looks like there could be astronauts inside! Cool photo opp.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
