This station has easy access to it from being able to pick up and drop off on both sides of Route 66. The security guard is who you talk to if you need to use the bathroom - it’s in a locked closet basically. the station itself is fairly clean and well privileged compared to the other stations in Washington’s metro system. Photos as of January 2019.
It's quite accessible and secure. I made it through this afternoon and combined then stopped at the Herndon Metrorail.
Got stranded with a dead phone late at night as they were closing up. Asked if i could charge up for 5 minutes but got escorted out. When I clarified that I had no way home I was told "It's not my problem". It was very cold and would have been screwed if not for a passing lyft at the adjacent complex.
I want to compliment a Metro employee. Her name is Christina Helms and she was amazing. I showed up at her station at around 9pm tonight April 12 wanting to buy 4 metro day passes. I had no idea what I was doing. I went to Christina's window and instead of pointing where I need to go, she came out of her booth to help me. She helped me buy the 4 passes and then gave me a map and showed me where I need to transfer and where to get off for my final stop. She could have easily stayed behind her glass booth, but she didn't. She went the extra mile. And for someone like me who is visiting from out of state, who has never been on the metro, she was a great help. We need more Christina's!!!
Was a regular Metro rider in the 1980's.... Today's visit was efficient and dependable. Easy access to and from I-66 with good parking. AND those flimsy paper fare cards are GONE! New system with 'SmartPass' credit card sized card works really well. Visitors can get an unlimited one day pass. This Metro is really a blessing to the Washington region.
Average mass transit system. We rode at noon. Seemed safe, pretty clean compared to others.
I just moved here VA 3 weeks ago an have been using public transportation, which for the most part has been decent. But man I tell you the 29N an 29K busses are by far the worst in terms of timing. If ur commute is time sensitive u may want to leave an hour or 2 before ur arrival time in order to arrive on time. As the bus drivers seem to be on their own schedules seriously I definitely think there is a performance evaluation need for the drivers of these buses 29N 29K all of them 6344 bus number is the one I used this morning. Just an observation an a heads up for anyone who is going to be taking the 29N or 29K an there commute is time sensitive.
Clean, modern, ample parking. I’m from the high desert of New Mexico so taking the Metro into the city is relatively new to me and quite an ordeal to have to put up with every day of the work week, but that’s life in the big city. The cost to drive to the Metro to park, plus parking costs, and to ride the Metro into the city daily gets rather expensive. Figure on about $16.00 daily based on the Orange Line from the Fairfax/Vienna station. Finding a seat on the Metro between the hours is 6:00-9:00am from the Fairfax/Vienna station is rather easy since it’s the start of the rail line into the city. But as you make your way into the city and stopping at all the stations 13 stops on the Orange line to the Smithsonian, more and more passengers pile in making it very crowded. Finding an empty seat is next to impossible. The train itself is clean as they don’t allow food or drink, smoking, or audio unless you’re wearing headphones or ear buds. As a courtesy, if you’re seated on an isle seat and the passenger next to you on the window seat exits the train at a stop, move over to the window seat which allows another passenger to sit easily in the isle seat. The train conductor is a bit hard at times to understand unless you’re familiar with all the station stops and the process of boarding/unboarding a train. The entire six days of taking the Metro to/from, I never once interacted with a Metro employee. No need to really. As for getting a Metro card at the station, they take credit cards but not sure about cash. Using the machine to purchase a Metro card is a bit confusing or too complex but once you get the hang of it, it’s a breeze. Tip: Purchase only what you feel you’ll need for your time and distance. In other words, I would buy two days worth of fees and then refill my card at the machine as needed. They also offer a smartphone app and website where you can register your card which allows you to refill your card and transfer amounts which is very convenient. Final tips: Internet/Cellular service is spotty on the Orange line. I think half of the route is underground so expect no service. Also, there’s a lack of bathroom facilities so plan accordingly. My ride into the city takes on average 45-50 minutes. No complaints from me with the Metro. Some of the locals tell me they feel the Metro is overpriced compared to the on in NYC. I have no opinion as I feel any mass transit systems usually are and most if not all lose money.
In general, this metro station is good. I would not recommend locking your bike here. Someone stole my back tire. I locked the front wheel and body to the bike rack.
This station is very easy to use. Park on either side and use the skywalk to enter the station. Trains arrive pretty frequently. The good news is that you will definitely get a seat, as this is the first stop on the Orange Line. This is a good mode of transportation during the weekday rush hour and will save you half the time to DC. The Metro is also ideal for tourists.
