WNMU J. Cloyd Miller Library

About

At the heart of Western NM University, Miller Library proudly serves the diverse WNMU Community and the equally vibrant Grant County Community.

Description

Named for J. Cloyd Miller (University President 1952-1962), Miller Library is the only building on campus distinguished by a bell tower. The library sits at the top of the 10th street rise on the curve that descends toward the Phelps Dodge Building on 12th street. The front of the library faces east, overlooking the town of Silver City.

The Miller Library forms the north wing of the Thomas B. McDonald Building (Student Memorial Building) and can be reached by taking the elevator on the first floor to the 3rdfloor mall. The west entrance of the library is at the end of the mall.

With a focus on students, the Miller Library’s mission is to serve the Western New Mexico University community by providing access to information and by teaching research skills. Assistance is available in person, by telephone, and through E-mail and E-chat.

Miller Library obtains, disseminates, and preserves information in a wide variety of print and electronic formats including books, periodicals, media, maps, micro form records and Government Documents. It is a partial Federal and State Government Depository. Special Collections, including rare books and archives such as the Juan Chacon papers, are held in the Library's Treasure Room.

The Library also provides access to photocopy machines, microform reader-printers, research computer terminals, wireless computer access, scanners and equipment for the hearing and sight-impaired. Interlibrary Loan services can obtain resources not owned by the Miller Library. The library's electronic resources are available via the internet by visiting http://voyager.wnmu.edu. In addition to its online public access catalog (OPAC), the library provides access to over 100 research databases key to university research and study.

The Miller Library is a member of OCLC, the New Mexico Council of Academic Libraries (NM-CAL), and Amigos Library Services and is an affiliate member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.

Mission

Miller Library serves the Western New Mexico University community, with a focus on students, and, secondarily the residents of Grant County, by providing access to information and teaching research skills. We embrace diversity, and strive to improve our resources and services
