Wonder Works, A Children's Museum in Oak Park

About

Wonder Works provides a hands-on learning environment intended to strenghten the social, emotional and intellectual development of children up to age eight. The 6400 sq ft museum includes exhibits, educational programming and a children's party room.

Description

With five "experience zones" plus an outdoor organic garden, Wonder Works gives kids plenty to explore. In North Avenue Art Works, kids can draw, paint and make crafts. In Farm to Market, children "harvest" fruits and vegetables, transport them and set up a shop to sell or barter. And in Lights, Camera, Action!, kids can dress up and perform a song, dance or play. Given that researchers believe 80 percent of a child's brain development takes place by age five, Wonder Works is a particularly important component of early childhood learning.

Mission

Wonder Works knows that because a child's brain is extremely impressionable, much more so than an adult's, early learning is vital to a child's development.

Studies on infant development have shown that exercise and sensory stimulation will improve a child's learning potential and enhance his or her feelings of self-worth.

With this in mind, Wonder Works has designed classes, programs and experiences in order to allow each child to explore, play and learn while having fun. Together, child and parent will experience the opportunity to exercise mental capacities in a safe, challenging and supportive play environment. Whether it's through music, exercise or art, at a party, field trip or weekend visit, Wonder Works presents an opportunity for every child's imagination to guide and help them grow.
