Cute little area great for Picnics family outings. Just sitting by water hanging. Beautiful area with fantastic views. Close to Kimble Park, and Fort Klamath History museum. Less than an hour from Crater Lake.
It is beautiful and doesn’t seem to ever get crowded. Perfect spot for kayaking, fishing, and swimming, not so great for hiking. Was able to walk the short trails along the river and my large dog was able to take a swim. The current is strong but should be fine for a larger dog.
Great area to walk as well as sit down and enjoy the views.
We saw a beaver making a dam here! It is a really nice and quiet place.
It was my first time kayaking this stretch between JF Kimball SP, and the Wood river day use area, it was amazing!
Great place for lunch or just relax and read a book
The day use area is a great place for a walk. I take my dog up there all the time to walk. The water is a little bit fast for them to swim. Wood River is crystal clear on the upper part and the water is always cold 39 to 42 degrees all year long. During the warmer weather I kayak there quite a bit. Most everybody puts in it Kimball Park a few miles upstream and floats down through the meandering River. River passes through beautiful Meadows and wooded areas. River wines quite a bit. By Road from Kimball Park to the day use area it's three miles. By the river it's over 6 miles. When I go kayaking Ileave my bicycle at the day use area and tie it up there. Then I go up to Kimball park with my truck and begin kayaking. I pull out at the day use area then ride my bicycle back to my truck then pick up my kayak. A couple notes about coming down the river from Kimball Park there's some very shallow areas and you might drag a little bit about halfway down there is a dam across the river you can kayak through the dam but it's narrow and you have to duck down. The other option is to Port around the dam. If I'm by myself I port around the dam if I'm with others I'll shoot through it. I do this just because of safety reasons.
We take out at this location from putting in our kayaks at Jackson F. Kimball State Park. About a 3 hour paddle down the Wood River. Very Fun!
A place designed to provide easy access to the Wood River by wheelchair-bound and other people so that they can fish, take photos of the scenery and wildlife, and otherwise enjoy the river. There are picnic tables, free parking, etc. Fishing is allowed in the river, but the regulations change from year-to-year, so be sure to check them.
This is a popular exchange place for Wood River kayakers. This can be a put in or take out depending on your plans. There is good parking and pit toilets. The access road is narrow so watch for other cars.
