Welcome to Wright "B" Flyer's Facebook page! The Wright B Flyer, Inc. (WBF) is a not-for-profit corporation that seeks to increase awareness of Dayton, Ohio, and the surrounding region as the Birthplace of Aviation.
To promote, through exhibition of Wright “B” Flyers, public awareness of the Dayton, Ohio region, where the Wright Brothers lived, invented the airplane, and gave birth to modern aviation.
•Since 1982, Wright B Flyer has operated the "Brown Bird," a one-of-a-kind lookalike of the 1911 Military Flyer, a specific Model B Flyer now on display in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The all-volunteer project to design and build the Brown Bird was the reation for establishing the organization. the airplane has made exhibition flights across the United States and in Europe.
•The organizations exhibits a nonflying Wright "B" Flyer replica on Huffman Prairie in Greene County in collaboration with the National Park Service. Huffman Prairie is the site of the Wright Company's flying school. It is now a part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and an element of the National Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. The "Yellow Bird" or "Valentine Flyer," also one-of-a-kind, is a movie star: It is a movie star that was originally built by Tom and Karen Valentine of California and used in the film "The Wings of Kitty Hawk."
•Wright "B" Flyer's volunteers designed and are test flying a third aircraft, the "Silver Bird," for exhibitions around the world. The airplane's design, including its size, was driven by the requirement to fit it into a standard cargo container for efficient overseas. We hope to see the airplane fly in 2010. It has been on static display at the 2008 NBAA convention in Orlando, FL, and EAA's AirVenture 2009 in Oshkosh, WI.
•Wright "B" Flyer operates a museum and gift shop in its hangar on Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. Visitors can inspect learn about the history of the Wright "B" Flyer, inspect one of the aircraft (depending on availability) and even test their skills on a Wright "B" Flyer simulator. Hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, and other times by appointment. Admission is free!
