Home cooking like your grandmother used to make 40 years ago. They are open late Thursday night & usually packed, but even if the line is out the door, you are only looking at about 15 minutes & it's well worth it. Great entree selections to choose from & usually about 10 vegetables, salads & awesome deserts! If you have never been, YOU HAVE TO GO! Check their hours, but I believe the open before typical lunch hour & close at 3pm & ion THURSDAY NIGHT to above 7:30pm. Check to be sure but it's the only NIGHT they are open, but YOU GOTTA GO & SOON!
This is definitely a locals place. It is a cafeteria style walk, through and pick out what you want place. There are probably 5 different entree options but the green beans were some of the best I ever had. I wish i could have some now. The baked steak was so so and the tea was pretty good. The people are very nice. The lemon meringue pie was very dried out but my husband enjoyed the coconut cream pie. They also had fish, chicken and spaghetti although he did not like the spaghetti. Id say it's worth a try and a lot of older people eat there.
If you won't some good homemade country cooking, then this is the best place ever. People stand in line to get in this place it is so good. The only bad thing about it is their limited hours of service. If you won't to go in the afternoon they are only open on Thursday's, so don't miss it! Lunch time is their main service time Monday-Friday. Please find time to try, it will be worth it!
Wow!! It's been awhile since I had a homemade cooked meal like this! I literally enjoyed every single thing I ate. And the mashed potatoes are real! So many dishes reminded me of my Mom's and Mammaw's food. They were wonderful cooks! My very favorite had to be the homemade coconut cream pie. Absolutely delicious
Great Place to eat I love the Spaghetti most every Thursday just walk thru and pick what you want Home made rolls are excellent, and All there Pies are Great. I have been eating there over 25 years. Five Stars Here
We go here very often and is usually good. Today however it was not. Mashed potatoes were not warm, neither were the chicken livers. The portions were smaller and price was high. Ours with no drinks was $23.and some change.
Really great, homelike atmosphere. Super delicious homemade dishes. Very busy when I got there at 12 but they do close at 2 so understand. Would most definately try to go back again if I'm in the area
Cash only but reasonable prices for some of the best country cooking around! Open for lunch weekdays and Thursday dinner. All the local politicians are patrons. Most people are of the gray-haired set, maybe because many younger people don't have the patience for a short wait to go through the cafeteria line. Duh, that's why it's called a cafeteria! More for us though! My favorites: breaded cubed pork tenderloin in gravy Thursdays, fried chicken livers, fried chicken, sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping, green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, pinto beans, coconut cream pie, pecan pie, sweet tea. Not all at one sitting. They have take out but you have to go through the line. It's worth it.
Food is delicious if you want homestyle meats and veggies. Love all their sides. Rolls and Pies are really good too. Cash only. You definitely come for the food, not the decor.
Won't be back but once month. Need the veggies but some were cold and some were luke warm at best. Chicken was dry, pork had gravy that was oily. Excellent sweet potatoes and chess pie. Expensive for what you get. I had a meat and two veggies, a roll, team to drink and a Jell-O salad. The other dinner had fried chicken breast, fried okra, mashed potatoes with gravy, a roll, tea to drink and chess pie. The bill was over $26.00. Max 3 stars.
