This place was mostly great, with a few things keeping it from being a solid 5 stars... - Traveling by car within the park is annoying, especially for large family gathering where you've got different campsites all over the place. All road are single-lane one-ways, with nowhere to pull off, and few places to park. Seems like this issue arises from trying to cram as many campsites back-to-back as possible. It'd be nice to see a couple of parking areas here and there, or to cut the length of the roadway in half by adding a perpendicular street down the center. If you've got more than one vehicle per campsite, or you're trying to drive to visit a family member on a different end of the park, you're not going to be able to park very easily, and it's gonna take you 15 minutes to get there. - The check-in process for cabins was lazy. I've been a hundreds of hotels and dozens of cabins, and they always let you check in early if your cabin is completed. This place forces you to wait until 3:00 p.m. no matter what, which can be troublesome when a bunch of your family already has campsites from the day before and you don't have anywhere to put your stuff or park so you can comfortably join them. Just give cleaning staff a walkie-talkie, and check the sites off of a list as they are cleaned. This way people can check in prior to 3:00 p.m. Not difficult; everywhere does this. - The bugs were terrible. Lots of standing water for breeding. I've been outside most of the summer, and this was the first place I've had mosquito or fly problems. This place has them in droves. We had, not even kidding, a hundreds of flies swarming us as we were serving food. And if you're sitting outside anywhere near dusk or nighttime, you're going to get eaten alive by mosquitoes. - There were groundhogs everywhere. This means there are holes everywhere. My daughter tripped in one when it was dark and was hurt pretty badly. Something's got to be done about these critters. Other than that, the park is very well-maintained with a ton of stuff for families to do. We'll definitely be back, and I hope they'll address some of these issues before then!! Nearby activities: Bike rentals with trails; a lake with kayak rentals; Storybook Land; multiple parks; lawn game rentals. Walkability: Walking distance of many kid-friendly attractions.
Very well kept and nice campground! Especially with a family it is perfect with all the parks and Storybook Land right there! Thunder road is also right close by with go-karts, mini golf and bumper boats. The lodge has food, snacks, drinks, ice and things you may have forgotten available. Most spots especially on the south area have plenty of shade. Campers, tents and cabins all available. Definitely recommend for a longer camping trip or even a weekend campout!
A nice campground in Aberdeen South Dakota. Cabin could be a little cleaner, but really good service and a nice park. Right next to Wylie park and storybook land.Rooms: 3/5
On our 18 day trip this was our nicest campsite by far. Also amazing being so close to Storeybook land and the go karts! We will make the 7 hour trip and return one day!
Very clean, quiet park with great shady spots and a lot to do. Walking/biking trails, a zoo, go cart track, mini golf, swimming, fishing and the kids adventure of Storybook land. We will be back.Rooms: 5/5
Nice, quiet, and well groomed RV sites. Very kid friendly.Rooms: 3/5
Update: the trees NEED to be trimmed, on the roads but especially in the campground!!! It's hard on RVs to have to hit trees while either driving or trying to park your RV. Last week we watched someone climb on top of their RV to trim the trees so his bump out didn't hit. People shouldn't have to do this!!Lawn care is awful anymore. Come on City of Aberdeen! We have a goldmine in this campground ..let's keep it that way! We used to brag about this campground and still love coming here, but it's embarrassing to listen to fellow campers complain about the awful maintenance of our favorite campground.....
We stayed in the North campground, which is the only one viable for Big Rigs. While they could stand to trim some trees, access was decent for this type of park. The asphalt surface appeared hard, but be sure to use your jack pads. Our 50 amp breaker did trip several times when we exceeded 40 amps of usage; hopefully the park will address power issues. The park itself is fabulous, very family friendly to keep you busy for several days. Because of the type of park this is, we recommended booking several days - there is so much to do. With the abundance of activities, be sure to check the times of operation in advance for the activities in which you are interested, as different ones have different hours. We found the employees quiet friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Don’t use this as just an overnight stop. At the time of our visit, they were watering the grass and there was an abundance of mosquitoes. We found the park to be quiet and restful; we only wish we would have stopped here sooner.
It's a small clean park... There is plenty to do and see with the family during the day. Some guy with an acoustic guitar came out a little late. I have it on good word that he was local, not even camping but visiting a camper. I'm glad he was good and kept it short. It almost seemed like he was booked which I'm not sure if I would have liked or not considering the hour. I was going to mark it a four star spot on account of the musical intrusion but the bathrooms were clean too.
So can I just say lovely, the campground is very nice and clean. The restrooms were clean and nice. We did everything online and stopped in the night and left early in the morning. Very easy to do their online site. Thanks for a great night's sleep.
