Yeadon Shotokan Karate Club

Description

Shotokan Karate is derived from several different martial arts and was developed and brought from Okinawa to mainland Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957). Shotokan is a traditonal Japanese "hard" style characterized by its long stances, designed to promote powerful technique and stability in movement. Shotokan training is typically broken down into three main portions: kihon (basic techniques), kata (prescribed patterns of basic techniques), and kumite (sparring).

Shotokan training is progressive. Students are taught techniques in steps that are easy to grasp and build on. As a student's level of proficiency increases the requirements of training become more rigorous and complex.

Mission

Yeadon Shotokan Karate Club (YSKC) was established in 1993 to offer traditional Shotokan Karate to both children and adults. YSKC uses both traditonal and modern training methods to bring out the best in our members. YSKC is a non-profit organization and we make every effort to keep our tuition rates as low as possible to fit into every family's budget. We are a member of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and East Coast Shotokan Karate Association (ECSKA).
