Yellow Dog Art and Frame is a family business. Owned by Jean Shelton and her son Samuel, the shop was designed to serve a special niche in the Ames community. Most specifically, custom framing with an emphasis on the use of sustainable products - meaning products that are environmentally friendly or products that have been re-purposed using materials that would otherwise have no further use. Not every item in our shop will meet the strict standards of environmentally friendly but our shop will promote the best possible choices for our customers as we strive to meet this goal.
Custom Framing
In addition to our standard mouldings, we offer frame mouldings made of natural wood or repurposed products. Most of our matboard is made of 100% cotton fiber.
Conservation Framing
Conservation is a term used often in the context of the environment. It is also, however, a term commonly used in the framing industry. In this context, conservation framing refers to the display of a piece of artwork without compromising or harming the artwork in any way. We at Yellow Dog Art and Frame have been specifically trained to offer conservation framing services. We will work with you to determine the best possible way to frame or display your art.
