This amazing team hosted our October wedding, and it was PERFECT. Our guests loved being able to stay in the cabins, which were warm and cozy but bring a flashlight for your hikes outside, it gets real dark!, and the activities the day of the wedding were an absolute hit. We have so many fun photos and videos of our friends and family climbing and zip lining and shooting arrows, and the YMCA team made everyone feel safe and confident. The chapel was GORGEOUS I definitely recommend mid-October if you want the most stunning backdrop of fall colors, and the Butler Lodge was the perfect place for dinner and dancing. Breakfast in the mornings was easy and tasty. This wedding was better than I could have ever dreamed, and it’s very much thanks to YMCA Camp Pinewood and their lovely, friendly, hard working staff!
Absolutely amazing place to be married and have a weekend wedding. They were responsive and accommodating. Jessie and Abby were so great, Jessie especially. If you are looking for a weekend wedding for guests to stay and celebrate with you this is the place. Also we’ll kept and beautiful scenery!
My spouse and I had the most magical wedding at Camp Pinewood. We love being in nature so being able to use most of the camp space made the weekend incredibly special for us and our guests. The staff was really helpful and accommodating when we needed them and otherwise they let us be. The majority of the guests along with us were part of the lgbtq+ community and everyone reported back that they had a positive experience interacting with staff. We did not do any of the camp activities during the weekend not enough time but we did have the camp provide our rehearsal dinner, s’mores, and Sunday breakfast. Both meals were good and included vegan/vegetarian options. They built one of the best campfires I’ve ever seen for our s’mores! Overall, the experience was incredible and more than I could have ever hoped for. I hope we can come back to celebrate an anniversary in the future!
This is a place I 100% percent recommend, the food is great, the activities are amazing and your allowed to bring snacks, well you can only eat them at snack time but still. The chaperones are really cool and easy to talk to. Literally the only bad thing is the FREAKING BUGS EVERYWHERE. There are catapilers and moscatos everywhere, and the showers are cold. Unless you like bugs and cold showers then this place is 5 stars
The venue is absolutely beautiful. It is remote, a large area for people to park, put rvs or tents. Cabins for around 200 people! Most of the cabins had views of the lake! There was a nice game room under the lodge with ping pong and a couple other games to play. For 200$ per activity you can have camp staff host activities like rock climbing/ zip lining, archery, and water games/kayaking. The venue can also provide firewood and s’more supplies for bonfires at night as well. Our challenges came in working with camp director Ryan. We initially toured the Venue with Bobby multiple times, who was great with communication and everything seemed very flexible and accommodating. The YMCA camp has strict rules in the contract you have to sign about lots of policies and procedures, specifically regarding alcohol use on the facilities. When we asked about this during our tour we were told the camp is much more flexible and will basically only enforce if things get out of hand. As guests you are responsible to provide your own bedding for the cabins, any linens, plates and cups needed during the stay. We initially had trouble finding a bar service that had their own liquor license which we were told they needed to have. We also had to purchase a 200$ insurance policy covering the camp during our weekend. We had the venue rented Friday from 3pm to Sunday at 11am. Our first activity we purchased was for Friday at 7pm. It rained all day up until about 6 and we had lots of family helping set up everything and get things looking pretty. Ryan did have the tables out and ready in the reception hall for us. There was little communication when we arrived and we often had to chase him down to get questions answered. After set up a lot of the adults set up camp chair to have a beverage and Ryan became very hostile about the camp rules being broken and cancelled the activity for all adults regardless of if they had anything to drink. He spoke very rudely with the bride and would not give eye contact when later addressed with groom. So with one activity being rained out and another cancelled we were out 400$ of activities paid for. The first night was definitely high stress and people on their toes because of this. The wedding day on Saturday rained and we had to move the ceremony inside the lodge. It was beautiful! Bring your own decor to decorate near the fireplace! The lodge is listed as being able to seat 240 people, we had 170 people mostly adults and it was tight! We used 4 circle tables up front and one small table for bride and groom, long camp tables for most seating and had a row of tables for the food we had catered from Salvatores in Grand Rapids 12/10 for the food!. On Saturday things we much smoother and the whole day was excellent even with lots of rain! The camp staff helped clear food from tables, they only had 2 people to clear food so our DJ TED corner DJ 12/10 stars! helped clear tables as well! The staff we worked with were very kind and helpful! Sunday we made breakfast for families but we’re not allowed to use the kitchen due to camp rules so we brought crock pots and things and could plug them in in the lodge area. We would highly recommend the venue and experience. Our big thing to clear up would be to get very explicit direction in writing from whoever is the camp director at the time about all policies and things discussed during your tour.
I was ten mom and dad let me go to camp Pinewood and that was 30 years ago . I loved it !me one of my good friends went for a few weeks . You had all kinds of things you can do there . Everything you could think of canoeing , swimming , crafts , putting on plays all kinds of sports , horseback riding , fishing , just everything so much you can pick from they kept you busy never bored awesome food . It was a very positive thing in my life that I'll never forget and I have a ton of pictures from their . I remember how proud I was to get the blue badge in swimming that was the best swimmers and they had such a beautiful lake and the counselors were awesome , and they had cabins with names and bunk beds I think my cabin was the Crows lol . A awesome experience I'll never forget .
Awesome camp! Honestly would love to come and volunteer if i had a few weeks time!
Couldn’t ask for a better experience for all five of my children. Getting kids involved in things other than gaming, social media, texting, etc. is hard to do today, but I have to say that my kids have always been so sad to leave their new camp friends and camp home. They would talk about their camping experience up until it was time to reurn the following year. My youngest is now turning 18 oldest is 33 and our time in the “kids program” has come to an end, but certainly not our Pinewood experiences.
Camp Pinewood hosted our wedding this Fall and it was absolutely everything we could have hoped for. We had a campfire Friday night, camp activities on Saturday morning for our guests, great sleeping accommodations, helpful staff, etc. We highly recommend!
I love camp pinewood. I've come to Camp for 4 years and continuing on 5. Camp is my favorite parts of the year. I go for both winter camp and summer camp. Camp Pinewood focuses on important traits with devotion and thought of the day, while still having tons of fun! We have exciting activities to sign up for, G-swim basically free time, twilight, evening activities, and sooooo much more. I forever love my piney wood home!
