People can say what they want and they're going to. And everybody has their own opinion. But I'll tell you what I've have nothing but good interventions with Ypsilanti police. Officer Lundy last night came and did a standby with me because my car had caught fire it was minimal but I was in a dangerous area and I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant, professional and secure feeling that came from him being there. I just think that we sound off when there's bad stuff I believe in sounding off when there's good also. Officer Lundy thumbs up to you. I have a lot of respect for you. I always pray when I see a police car, ambulance or fire truck out in the public going to a call I always pray for their safety and my grandchildren even do it now. We pray for the safety of all involved and that those you are going to will also be safe and healthy what more could you ask for God bless you all Deborah Samonek
I am a small business owner in the city. I recently had a customer run off with some high value items. I called the Ypsilanti Police Dept and I gave the deputy that showed up 3 days late!!! the name, address, and phone number of the individuals that took the merchandise. I provided video evidence from 2 different cameras of the incident as well. The deputy returned to my store and said that he talked to the individuals and that they said they paid. That was it! End of the story..no arrests, no returned merchandise, nothing. They simply don't care and just want you to leave them alone if they can make it happen that way. It took me 3 days of calling them and letting them know that nobody is coming to see me regarding the theft in order for someone to show up. I pay my taxes and have been a long standing business I'm this city for over 10 years. I have always donated and supported the local officers and fire fighters associations but will now discontinue providing my contributions.
The police do not care about their citizens. Does YPD need more staff? This has happened repeatedly with Ypsilanti Police Department. They force you to stand in the lobby to discuss embarassing, personal matters, which does not preserve any privacy when there are other people in the lobby. They do not follow up and are unavailable. They do not return calls or respond to e-mails to confirm receipt. You have to pester and call repeatedly. They hurry you to the point that it is hard to keep one's train of thought when trying to speak. They act like you are wasting their time. Your officers need sensitivity training, what may be a normal day for you isn't for those not in law enforcement! I plan to contact our Governor about this. I am sure none of you officers would want your doctor to act like your family member's cancer diagnosis is no big deal, even if it has a 90% cure rate. Something needs to change, no excuse for this. Please do better! 2 stars only because their response time is fast, if you call they do arrive quickly. Even then they are quite rude though.
Firstly, kudos to the Chief of Police for inveatigating complaints promptly and taking citizen concerns seriosuly. Only reason this isn't a 1 star review. He was quite pleasant and I am proud that he is leading this unit. HOWEVER, interaction with Officer Duford was horrendous. Tremendously rude individual whose mother must not have taught how to apologize properly. Did not work to help citizens proactively follow directions, but instead reactively punished. A prime example of why many people distrust the police. You're only as good as your worst officer. EDIT: bumped down to 1 star for sporting "Blue Lives Matter" masks. Get over yourselves.
One of the officers was making rounds around public parking spots, ready to give out tickets to any violators. When she arrived at my location, she walked past my car as she saw that I paid to be in the spot for half an hour. I left the restaurant only a couple minutes after my time was up to see a ticket on my car. It’s like she knew that my time was up and came back to my car to give me a ticket! If I was more than a couple of minutes late, I would understand why I got the ticket. From my experience, it’s clear that this particular officer hopefully not the department as a whole doesn’t care about protecting and serving the community as much as she does giving out tickets to people who didn’t do anything wrong.
I have never been arrested and there was an incident that i was invovle in, the officer B. Lewandowski treated like a person and not a criminal. I would like to thank him. He followed all the rules handcuffed me and i followed everything i was suppose do also. Thank you young man for treating me nice.
I had one bad experience with an Ypsi cop that has left a bad impression about the whole department and their competency. Around May 2017 I was pulled over by a young Black Ypsi cop. He never did say why he pulled me over. This was his first unprofessional mistake. He asked if I had been drinking. There was no evidence whatsoever that I HAD been drinking but he asked me anyways. I answered honestly that I did drink a couple of beers earlier that evening. Before you know It, he's asking me to get out of my truck. I had no idea what was going on. Then he starts doing the pencil test to see if Im drunk. After about ten minutes of doing something that he was obviously unqualified and untrained for, he still wasn't satisfied so then he starts asking me to walk straight lines, stand on one foot. Again, he had no reason to believe and he had gathered no evidence that showed I was drunk. Then the asshat goes to his vehicle and brings back a breathalyzer! By this time, I'm ready to laugh at the clown and tell him to look for a new profession because he was obviously unqualified to be a cop. So I went along with Inspector Clouseau and blew into his little toy breathalyzer. The reading came back .00. He didn't apologize for stopping me for no reason whatsoever and he didn't apologize for making me stand out in the rain while he practiced the pencil test. And he didn't apologize for essentially calling me a liar and a criminal. In fact, he seemed pretty upset that I was actually 100% sober. I was pretty upset that he was 100% unqualified to wear that badge and that I was flushing money down the toilet when I was paying his salary. Because of his utter incompetence, I now have no confidence whatsoever in the Ypsilanti police to protect me, my family, or our home. I know Ypsilanti isn't a rich city but to find out that they hire guys to serve and protect who are untrained, unqualified, and utterly incompetent makes me shudder in fear at the thought of living in a city with such an incompetent police force. Maybe some of their cops are professionals, but my one experience says otherwise. God Help the people of Ypsilanti!
I work in Oakland County, and due to my job I call the police from time to time. However, it’s throughout the US. I called the ypsi police the other day and the officer was by far the best officer I have worked with including dispatch. This says a lot since I call the police every where in the US.
You refuse to give justice to Julia Niswender. You refused all outside help to my knowledge and will not send DNA to be tested to my knowledge. I also believe You are doing everything you can to not investigate. Pathetic.
Annette m Coppock is the best officer that they have in Ypsilanti, mi Sargent yukas is next but can become very unfair at times. they are a racist police department, living proof.
