Critical to YWCA Brooklyn’s social justice model is the dedication of its newly renovated,180,000 square foot downtown Brooklyn building in service to the community and specifically other grassroots organizations also serving women and girls in Brooklyn. Facing a rapidly gentrifying borough, YWCA Brooklyn recognizes that many nonprofits cannot pay the rising costs of rent and are, as a result, struggling to survive. Through YWCA Brooklyn funded subsidizes for both office and program space, these organizations are able, not only to survive, but also to expand the reach and impact of their services. YWCA Brooklyn is proud to currently house four other nonprofit organizations including Girls for Gender Equity, as well as to provide free event and meeting space to dozens of other nonprofits throughout Brooklyn. In 2015 there were over 20,000 visits to YWCA Brooklyn’s Social Justice Community Center.
