National Cemetary which is the location of thq12th President's grave site and momument. As with all National Cemetaries, it is in outstanding condition. Highly recommend a visit to honor our fallen military and President Zachary Taylor.
My father who served was buried there many years ago, what stood out for me then and still does, was the respect and dignity shown him throughout the entire service and interment. My mother passed two years ago and as in many cases she wanted to be buried with my dad, her husband. I was not surprised by the consistent level of respect and dignity afforded her as was my father. I know that this cemetery is known for it's beauty and the president whom is buried there, but for me, it will always stand out as a place where the men and women who served and their spouses receive that final show of thanks via the dignity and respect of the final service they receive. I can't find the words to express my gratitude at how they treated my parents when they were laid to rest, in my opinion it was no less dignified than you'd expect for a high ranking officer or even a president. Sincerely, Glen Adkins.
The place is pristine. Clean, sad yet beautiful and peaceful. You will see families or relatives solo visiting their loved ones. The nature in and around is amazing. Once you sit and watch you enjoy the peace from it. Amazing place to appreciate what we have because of them.
President Zachary Taylor is buried on his family's plot which is contained within the National Cemetary. His boyhood home is a mile away, if that, but it is a privare residence identified only by a marker. Cemetary is impeccably maintained.
Very nice clean cemetery. Well taken care of
Free to see. Free parking. Where our 12th president of the United States is buried.
Off a busy street, this cemetery is a beautiful place to honor those who served in our military and as President. The gravesite of President Taylor is in the back and is cool to see. Just love seeing the rows and rows of white tombstones of our veterans. A great tribute
Memorials and cemeteries can surely bring our own mortality to the forefront of our thought. This was the case for me when coming down the long driveway toward the tomb of Zachary Taylor, our 14th President. To see all the headstones for the military men who have died and then get to the generals tomb. Well it is a sobering experience. Be sure to note the sort of lump in the grass behing the current tomb, as it was the original resting place for Zachery, also note on the left and behind the main area are the far older headstones. The stories that are hidden beneath the lawn are mind boggling.
“Beautiful Place” Lovely cemetery. Go first thing in the morning and you might see an 8-10 point buck laying in the middle of the cemetery. I did, very cool. I thought he was a statue at first, LOL
This is the resting place of the only president to be buried in Kentucky and obviously the cemetary holds his name, but there is also another interesting person buried here that I have not seen in any of the other reviews. The grave of Thomas F. Mantell is also in this cemetary. You will be forgiven for not knowing the name, but you may have heard of how he passed. On January 7th, 1948, Mantell's plane crashed after chasing something he thought was a UFO. Stationed in Frankfort, Mantell's plane crashed in a field in Franklin Kentucky chasing what he believed was a UFO. This incident changed the national view of how the US and the government took UFO sighting.
