187 Augusta is a space that welcomes individuals, communities and organizations whose work is transformative.
We would like to begin by acknowledging that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes before settler contact.
Today, the meeting place of Toronto (from the Haudenosaunee word Tkaronto) is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that though we inhabit these lands, they aren't ours to claim and name. 187 Augusta is a space that welcomes transformative work and dialogue.
We support individuals, communities and organizations that see the world differently, want to live differently and so create work that aims to be transformative. Our programming challenges the dominant imagination by moving beyond boundaries or ignoring them completely.
