The Library is exactly what it needs to be. Todays visit allowed my daughter to get books with speed, use the computer and enjoy ABC mouse Check out with her Library Card. My wife got to go look in the upper floors to find books for her own taste. The AC was blasting and a comfortable place to spend a lot of time in.
8th floor view is amazing! There are small conference rooms and very quiet study zone. Don’t forget to bring wet tissue and clean up the desk before you seat!
People Let there kids run around. Some Adults make there kids lay on the floor while they go into the rooms and close the door and don't watch them. Adults also make to much noise. Homeless people hang out there.
For me, a library is a place where an infinite number of possibilities open up in the form of books. In university libraries I expect to see readers , mostly students sitting in reading rooms. The library housed in this large, modern building is different. There is an air of abandonment and apathy and some shelves are bare. However, this library has a great collection of magazines and some of them are from faraway lands and cultures. The staff is excellent! One of them accompanied us to the section that had magazines when we said that we were looking for some.
Most public libraries are nothing to brag about, but this specific branch is top-notch. You honestly don't even have to be a fan of reading or public libraries to appreciate this place, the architecture alone is enough to enamor even the simplest of people. The sheer size of this place is massive, there are plenty of wide open spaces with a fair amount of books to explore. No matter what genre of book you are into or if you just like to have a relaxing space to surf the internet; they have you covered. Get yourself a free library card that is super easy to electronically sign up for, pick your design and you are ready to go. I'd suggest checking out every space that they offer and exploring the reading selections because, at the end of the day, they will have something that catches your eye. If you can't find what you are looking for, you can always log in to their catalog and locate it manually or if you need a little bit more help, just ask. The staff members want you to be excited about reading, they don't just simply point to a general area where you can find something, they will easily write down the call number and show you where it is at.
This library is one of the best given the location and available options for public and students use. The bathrooms need cleaning, always dirty and unhygienic.
Im on the 8th floor today. There are great views from where I am sitting. Wifi is great and there is ample space to place my study materials. There is a charging port for all of my electronics as well. Retrooms are clean. Besides the lady breaking her fingers trying to type her thesis paper as loud as she can, or the girl who is doing her collaborative project over the phone, or the young college couple practicing the art of french kissing for their intercultural communications class. I would say this place is perfect and a quiet-ish place for studying.
This is my favorite place in San Jose, my "happy place." Lots of art and points of interest. The so-called "empty shelves" that one reviewer mentions I imagine might be to allow some breathing room so that one can browse the shelves without becoming overwhelmed, and to accommodate changes in the makeup of any given collection of books? MLK has 8 floors plus basement. One can while away hours just browsing. Excellent staff. A nice peaceful place to just sit and read. Uplifting to see all the students, young and old, pursuing knowledge.
Nice place to study or work quietly - be aware of the homeless/smelly vagrants walking around or using the bathrooms which are usually filthy. Some nice views of campus if you know where to go.
I had a question regarding passes to the museum and Robert at the MLK library was kind enough to look into it and then give me a call back to explain why I wasn't able to RSVP needs to be an adult card, not a child one. Really appreciated the help, dedication and call back. Thank you!!
