We had excellent transportation service with using ABC tours. Mike was so personable and his company was very professional. We felt safe and received an informative impromptu tour from him as he drove us to our lodge...we even saw a leopard on our drive into the Klaserie. I was nervous as I had never been to South Africa and found the company through tripadvisor, but I would not hesitate to use them again!
Scammed I am writing this review with some amount of trepidation, seeing that all the reviews before me are all 5 star rated. Most charitable explanation that I can offer is that this tour operator went rogue just now. I had booked a group transport arrangement for our group of 10 people from ABC Africa Tours on 16th March 2018 for a program commencing on 5th August and ending on 8th August 2018. My program initially entailed transportation and between Hoedspruit Airport and Tintswalo Safari Lodge, Manyeleti Safari Park. Michael Da Silva was my contact and he requested me to upfront wire him the entire amount of ZAR3000, which I did. I did not book the transfer with my Lodge since their rates were somewhat higher. Subsequently, due to changes in flight schedules of SA Airlink, I had to reschedule my onward transport from the Safari Lodge to Nelspruit airport instead of Hoedspruit airport on 8th August. Michael wanted to charge me ZAR 5000 additional for this change which I found exorbitant, given that he had quoted for the round trip from Hoesdpruit airport for only ZAR 3000. Even the lodge was quoting a much lower price for the changed schedule. So, I had told him to either refund the initial amount that I paid him or to accept ZAR 2750 as additional charges. He readily accepted this and I wired him ZAR 2750 on 24th June 2018. All wires included some extra amounts to cover bank charges at the paying bank's end. I started following up with ABC/Michael from 9th July, followed up by a reminder on 27th July to get a confirmation that we are all set. Finally, I got a mail from ABC/Michael on 27th July that his Company will not be in operation during the dates that I had booked due to "tragic and unforeseen circumstances". A refund will be made within 30 days. I was flabbergasted since I had to rush now to make alternate arrangements since we were leaving our home in Dallas on 3rd August morning. Somehow I was able to arrange the transport at a higher overall cost from our lodge. I have since been writing to ABC Tours 8 mails in all asking for an immediate refund of $480 being the equivalent of the amounts that I have wired to them since there is no reason for them to take 30 days time to refund. I got a mail from one Jan Pieravit apologizing and stating that Michael had suddenly lost his son. He then wrote on 9th August that the payment has been wired. It is now 25th August and there is no sign of the wire credit in my account. He has since gone radio silent and has not replied to my last three mails, including the last one on 23rd August. I have called their office long distance several times and the phone always goes into voice mail. No calls have been answered/returned. I now think that I have been thoroughly scammed by ABC Africa Tours and Safaris. I will be taking up my case with SA Police, SA Tourism and other self-regulatory bodies. Meanwhile, everyone else is advised to stay clear of these fraudsters.
