If you wish to experience a township tavern with a splash of suburb order, this is a good place. It attracts a variety of people, but it's patronage most likely come here for a taste of their social life back home. Although the food is tasty, I often wonder about the way it's handled and kept warm. It always makes me and friends feel like we're taking our chances. They've got one or two security guards who walk about in black suits, staring firmly at patrons. Plenty of seats. This establishment is quite fun when it peaks during the salary cycles of its patrons because there's always nice music and the option to sing karaoke. Their prices are fair, atmosphere's hot and drinks are cold.
I believe it's a restaurant during the day, turns into a chilled spot to drink & eat South African traditional food at night with DJs and sometimes, live performances. Great vibe, but the service was definitely a bit slow.
The resturant sells african dishes. They have selection of ciders; wines and spirits.the night was lavish with live performances House music artists and local comedy night
It's a nice restuarant. They serve South African cuisine and there is a huge variety of drinks to choose from. The music is good. Thursday are more fun as they are always having a karaoke night and bring in artists.
African Chef is perfect when looking to satisfy the appetite for real local cuisine. However, the service leaves very little to be desired. The service is slow, the staff is unprofessional and listless, they are not consistent in activities of cleaning up promptly and checking on patrons. I recommend African Chef as a pick-up and go but wouldn't recommend sitting in.
Nice place to buy African traditional food. Try the oxtail, cow head or mogodu, you will not be disappointed. It can get quite busy over the weekend, and food might run out quicker then expected, so I'd suggest buying food late afternoon/early evening so that you are not disappointed. African Chef can get quite loud, so if you prefer a quiet place to have conversations, it might not be the most conducive place.
Cuite the unexpected. Awesome and friendly African pub with food on the side. Standard pap & vleis is very nice. They have a indoors and outdoors area, stage and a lot of music. Friendly staff, food is cooked while you wait.
Horrible, dirty place. Entrance full of rubbish and broken bottles all over the parking lot.
Have you ever been to a place where ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is offered?...Welcome to African Chef. The name is very deceiving, don't expect a restaurant setting. Music was bad, Food was horrible and stuff is just not friendly. Honestly I don't know what it is that they offer there.
A lot has changed after the renovations here. Has one of the best managers: George. The clientele has improved. Drinks are bit pricey though. I'd advice pre-drinks at home before going there. Don't forget to Uber/Taxify.
