Our dream is to provide a unique affordable accommodation experience in the leafy suburb Hunters Home in the jewel of South Africa, Knysna. Our plan is to place “ALoft” with Airbnb to generate international interest and clientele.
“ALoft”, a pun on A loft (as the suite is in a loft) and aloft (as the bed is suspended from the roof). The suite has been completely and loving being rebuilt using the principles of recycle, reuse, repurpose and upcycle. A large part of the ceiling was removed and the rough cut roof trusses were sanded down and a dark finish applied to offset the crisp white walls and floor details. The bed was made out of old trusses from a demolished outbuilding and the headboard from an old single bed. A window bench with a view was made from an unused single wooden bed base and makes a wonderful reading recess, doubling as a comfortable sleeper for an additional guest if required. The floor was sanded down and stencilled with a cottage inspired motif and sealed to protect the finish and to aid cleaning.
The property sits in a natural setting across from the foot of the Bigai (misspelling of “Big eye”) wetland and approximately 50 meters from the entrance to Knysna Golf Course. Within a few kilometres there are several restaurants providing from fine dining to pub food. Leisure isle with its idyllic beaches is less than a five minute drive away. Town centre is roughly five kilometres away. Knysna winter Oyster festival takes place manly around sporting events and one of the main venues Loerie Park is within walking distance.
